QUANGLE, as in Quangle Wangle Quee and his hat, a gut-wrenching omission from the OED.

25-3=22
22*5=110
110+6/3 = 112
112 * 8 = 896.

Did it the same way but then there probably aren't that many ways.

(6+3-5)*(25+3)*8 is another way

Admittedly I didn't get this within 30 seconds, but hopefully this is a correct way of getting the solution that doesn't involve multiplying 112 by 8:

3 x 25 = 75
75 + 6 = 81
8 + 3 = 11
81 x 11 = 891
891 + 5 = 896

I still did 112*8 but a slightly different 112 again: -

((25-(6/3))*5)-3=112

Almost the same as Conor's, just getting to 115 and taking off 3 rather than 110 and adding on 2 :-)

As an aside I thought our Methodist Minister would win today. He was in the audience back at the end of series 56 (Pam Smith was there as 9th seed). He seemed quite pleased to tell me that he had scored 110+ in I think my 5th game (or it may have been a QF of 56). Either way I remember thinking I wonder if he will appear as some point.

I think he may need to improve on today to get 8 wins though. Still some good spots none-the-less.

Ooohh, 112*8 is a terrible solution! A disgrace to the fine number of 896!

Seriously though, there's nothing wrong with 112*8. I used that method myself during the numbers game, funnily enough solving it exactly the same way as James did, so that saves me the effort of having to type it out - though typing this rubbish means I've been saved no effort at all. Furthermore, I would acknowledge it as being the superior solution, as it is direct.

I've just always quite enjoyed trying to find alternatives. Particularly when more than one kind of solution isn't immediately obvious.

And in this case, I preferred a solution that may have seemed a little odd ;)

Only watched this programme a few minutes ago in the nick of time before it expired on C4OD. And I went for your method James. :)
