Lawrenson is so sly. I thought when he started listing off 7s I might be able to pop in with ACCREDIT as a DC beater. But no such luck. The tanned bastard.

Numbers Game 1 alt:

100 + (9-5) = 104; 104 x (5 + 1) = 624

Numbers Game 2:

((75 + 6) x 10) -6

Numbers alternate, shorthand of Lisa's version:
7 x 6 = 42
42 - 8 = 34
34 x 10 = 340

Would you believe I got the conundrum in about 2 or 3 seconds? It's the first conundrum I've ever managed to solve watching the TV version! I was thrilled with myself! As for the numbers, it was confusing.

Letters round with VEINETKTB: could you not have TENET for 5? I know that DC beat that with their 6s, but I'm curious.

As for NAIADS, after seeing it in another game, I'm kicking myself for missing it!

Which were (not necessarily in right order) FTLLAE

Oh right. Sorry Phil! Mark Lawrenson is another of BBC's sports analysts, but you might not have bumped into him as his main role is Match of the Day analysis.

He's a bit like a slightly-older Lawrenson. Known for having an excellent 'tache but that has gone in the last couple of years.
Here's a pic, and here's another. I definitely stand by my "looks like Inverdale" comment.

I managed to get the conundrum also very quickly, 2 secs before Mike. Total score if I had been playing - 78 points. When TFLLAEUMF came round, I'm surprised Lisa only had a 5, I had 3 6's (Missed Mike's fateful, though)

Hi all! That was an exciting game. It was the last of the day and I was very tired! That's my excuse anyway!! I'm very embarrassed at arguing with Suzie about how to spell Sandaled  ! Which wouldn't have counted anyway coz sandaled is american spelling, sandalled in uk.

Did you notice I actually buzzed in just a split second after Mike. Gutting!

I got 804 a nice way: (75-8)x(6+6).

I blame tiredness for my poor effort today, although some words were unusual. I did miss PARERGA, AGAROSE, GRASPER and GROPERS and the first two are massive regulars on apterous. I'm off out to sulk.

You did very well Lisa and had a good run with 4 games. Shame you missed out on the conundrum today. I did beat you a couple of times, but I'm sure I wouldn't do anything like as well in the studio. It must be quite nerve-racking in the spotlight. Did you get a teapot? They don't mention the goodie bags any more.

Yeah a teapot and a very nice clock and pen, dictionary, mug etc. I think they didn't mention the goodie bag coz they didn't have any to show. They sent my prizes on to me. Hopefully they'll start showing the prizes, as it's nice for people to see what's up for grabs.

Perhaps I ought to post a long list of all the mistakes I make for each programme ... though I have some sort of excuse for the mistakes as I do my trumpet practice (all the boring stuff like scales and technical exercises) at the same time as trying to do each round. I bet not many people are playing F# major double-tongued AND getting wrong solutions simultaneously. Maybe this should be a handicapping system in the actual programme in future.

I missed today's show - for the first time in ages  and don't fancy getting up on Sun at 6am to watch repeat. :?

I'll read the recap once it's up, but I'm itching to do the number swapsies sooner...

... if anyone's on line and has them, would you mind posting the three numbers games here? Ta. (I was going to try to decipher them from the solutions you've posted but obvs not all numbers are used and I also didn't want to absorb the methods you've all used.)

It's a sore point for many people on this forum. Apparently they refuse to visit the catch up site at all until it's remedied.
That's not true obviously but it wouldn't surprise me :) Anyway, glad it worked... let me know how you do on the numbers!

I did a -2 game today. I didn't know SUNSPACE and didn't get it, and I didn't get TAMARINS either although I have heard of that. I was quite pleased to get MARTINS, I was thinking of MARTINIS but alas no, it's a proper noun. Good game thought, quality was pretty good, obviously there were a few disallowed words in there otherwise both contestants would have got at least 90.
If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?

That's ok about the subtitles, at least Rachel puts up lots of words the contestants and Susie offer. Oh no, wait, she doesn't!
(Re it being time consuming to take these shots, why don't they just put up captions of the words offered?)

Thanks Matt, all were easy, inc two of the swapsies, but toiling still with 1.6.7.8.10.50-804 :|

You got a pen? I didn't get a pen! Goddamnit, I appeared in the wrong series.

Oh and well done on the three wins.

The goodie bag for this series is SO MUCH BETTER it's not even funny. It comes in this really nice fabric bag, with a pen, a clock, and all kinds of other stuff that I can't remember. I mean, Countdown is still a bad programme to go on if you just want prizes, but this is a real step up.
