Susie's reaction suggested to me it wasn't her that got the nine - she seemed a bit embarrassed by being given the credit.

With a maximum of 175, I believe this is the highest in the history of Countdown...I believe the highest before this was 166 last year?? (Sometime in February/March??)

Max of 175 makes it a record, not just in the new 15 format (previous was 166), but outright. The previous best was 173, and is the only other game with 5 nines available.

Thanks Stephen for the clarification! I highly doubt this record will be beaten for many years to come...

Even more impressively (IMO), every one of the 9s today had six consonants.
I'm not dead yet. In a rut right now because of stress from work. I'll be back later in S89. I also plan to bring back the Mastergram - if I can find a way to run a timer or clock through pure MediaWiki without having to upload to Vimeo every time.

KARROID to equal KORADJI in Round 2.

Was anyone else rather enraged when Chris went 6 small, given the circumstances? Very glad Rachel managed to come through on that one.

Brilliant game today!

Not a beater but with Raj in DC, I thought RAJOID was a good word in R2. :)

TERRAPINS and PRETRAINS also in R8.

Also, 102 points by the 2nd break, and a raw score of 143 is probably a new record for me. :)

On any other day, I'd be very happy with my scores, but missing CRAFTIEST and TRANSPIRE were bad points for me. Shame Mary didn't go any further, but Chris is a very good player and I am sure he will do well in the games to come.
My scores for today:
Me:137-55 (Mary)
Me:131-73 (Chris).

Don't really see a problem with it. Nothing was really at stake. Why do you?

From a purely Apterous-esque point of view, I was just concerned that the highest max record was going to go away. I understand that 99% of actual viewers would have just been indifferent.

I think if the sum was a simple 6S, then maybe people would not be moaning, but as it was a tricky (well at least imo, only got 607), then maybe people were frustrated, but I was not enraged by it personally....

He wouldn't have known about the record, and one of the nines wasn't mentioned on the show anyway.

And while we're here, (7x9 + 8x3) x 7 = 609 for the standard method.

Wasn't particularly really, the vast majority are possible and I doubt he new about the record max or whatever.
It's sort of like making an issue of that guy picking 4l with Kirk on 123 with 2 rounds left - it's easy to scream from an apterous perspective but most casual people won't know or care.

Not enraged, but surprised - why bother when you've already won and may as well give yourself the best possible chance of increasing your total points?

I do get irritated when a challenger who's already out of it does that (or goes 4 large) and makes it harder for the Champion the opportunity to stack up points. Again, why bother?

BUT had I been his opponent and the game was much tighter I would certainly have been enraged by the amount of time Nick gave him to work out what he was going to declare.

Also, am I right all 10 letter rounds were 6 consonants 3 vowels? How often does that happen? Amazing to have 4 nines available in the circumstances.
