Spoilers for Monday 8th December QF3

Post by Ben Hunter »

It's Junaid Mubeen versus professional footballer Neil MacKenzie. Will it be Junaid who gets the points on the board, or will Neil play him off the park?

The opening story/joke Des read out was possibly the worst/least funny I have ever heard in the whole of Countdown history.

R3 equaller for 9 points: ORDINATES

spotted this one very quickly, was surprised that Junaid went for NOTARISED, not a word I had seen or knew to be valid

I was hoping for it to come up, then Carol put the T on the board and I was like, woo.

Nice to see John Sargeant back in Dictionary Corner, although since leaving Strictly he seems to be going for rather over-heavy make-up.

Would CHANGER have been acceptable as a beater in Round 6?

letters: FOGREMAKE (not sure of round #)

for 7 points beater would have been: FROMAGE which is presume is dictionary'd up?
To be fair I didn't spot it until Junaid said FORAGE.

Also quite funny that Suzie hasn't given a single word from DC yet, thanks to Jo taking up all the airtime :)
Suzie definitely had FROMAGE as you could see her aching to say it (and presumably did, in the studio)

Fraid not mate, 6 is the best from that selection. CHANGER is OK though. Good performance from Junaid there, frustrating to play along to though as the rounds were so flat. Off to watch my recordings of the first 2 quarters now.

Junaid's performance certainly was "Magnifico". He beat me 118 to 93. Round 1 was the only round I managed to beat him with FIDGETS.

Round 3 - I got both ORDINATES AND NOTARISED - I also had DERATIONS as another alternative.

Alternative 7 for word game round 6 - DOMAINE + WAITERS in round 7.

I think Junaid will take some beating on that form.

Matt - check out Thurs 20 November 2008 - "Notarize" appeared as an alternative suggestion. It can be spelt with either "s" or "z".

Glad it wasn,t just me that found todays joke the most cringeworthy one of the series.
I managed to beat the contestants on the first round with Fidgets, then it was all down hill for me.
I think we may have seen the finals winner in action today. He doesn,t seem to have a weakness. He is good at all aspects of the game.
Well played.

Is it just me, or is Jo Brand's shtick getting on other people's nerves as well. It's like a kid who, having thought up a good joke, bores everyone to death by repeating it ad nauseam.

I got a DC beater of MONDAINE in round 7.

Missed out on the max game today as I got 14/15 maximums - missed TELECOM in round 2 despite getting it in Gallen's CofC game. Damn. Well played Junaid.

I did get CHANGER and MONDAINE (how many French words can you have in one round?). I sort of thought Susie had CHANGER but Jo didn't leave her time to get it in. I do think Jo Brand is the worst ever Dictionary Corner guest, I'm sorry but I do. I think last time she was one, someone started a discussion about it on the "General" forum, and it wasn't me! Sort of makes it tempting to just read the recaps instead of watching the show.
If you cut a gandiseeg in half, do you get two gandiseegs or two halves of a gandiseeg?

I'm pleased to say that I haven't listened to a word of the rubbish with which Des opens the show for at least six months. I just fast forward through his mumbling and cackling.
My home is on the south side,
High up on a ridge,
Just a half a mile from
The Scarborough Valley bridge.
