Fantasy Countdown (will contain series 77 spoilers)

Post by Martin Hurst »

Let's give this a try!!!

For each of the seven games in the Series 77 finals, you give an answer of “higher” or “lower” in terms of the winning margin quoted – if you get your prediction right, you score 1 point per point you are right by, if you get it wrong, you score zero points.

For example, the winning margin stated in the first quarter final is Tom to beat Greame by 49 points. If your answer is “higher” and Tom wins by 60 points, you will score 11 points (60 – 49 = 11). If your answer was “lower”, you will score zero points.

If Tom beats Greame by 40 points, if your answer is “higher” you will score zero points, if your answer is “lower” you will score 9 points (40 – 49 = -9)

If Greame beats Tom by 5 points, if your answer is “higher” you will score zero points, if your answer is “lower” you will score 54 points (-5 – 49 = -54)

The winner is the person who has accumulated the most points after the grand final!

For the lowdown of the finalists, please see http://www.c4countdown.co.uk/viewtopic. ... 54#p174309

The quoted winning margins are..........

Code: Select all

Quarters:

Game 1: (1) Tom Chafer-Cook v (8) Graeme Staples - Tom to win by 49 points
Game 2: (2) Bradley Horrocks v (7) James Kennedy - Bradley to win by 38 points
Game 3: (3) John Cowen v (6) Michael Pfeffer - John to win by 14 points
Game 4: (4) Noel McIlvenny v (5) Eoin Jackson - Noel to win by 7 points

Semis:

Game 5: Semi final 1 - the better seeded player to win by 29 points
Game 6: Semi final 2 - the better seeded player to win by 26 points

Final:

Game 7: the better seeded player to win by 16 points

Your entry should be posted in this thread and look something like this (as an example):

Game 1: HIGHER
Game 2: LOWER
Game 3: HIGHER
Game 4: HIGHER
Game 5: LOWER
Game 6: HIGHER
Game 7: LOWER

One entry per person please, and for anyone who knows what happens in the finals, please do not enter or spoil it for anyone else!!!! Only entries made before 2pm on Thursday 14th December will be valid.

Results will be updated daily.

Hope this all makes sense - any questions, please ask!!!

Good luck :)

I'm not dead yet. In a rut right now because of stress from work. I'll be back later in S89. I also plan to bring back the Mastergram - if I can find a way to run a timer or clock through pure MediaWiki without having to upload to Vimeo every time.

Oh yeah, small inquiry here -- what happens if one of the predictions is neither higher nor lower, but exact? For example, what happens if Tom beats Graeme by exactly 49 points in Game 1?

Today's game was tight. Tom looked like he had it until that conundrum spot from Graeme. 40 points up after 9 rounds as well.

I may be dumb, but can I ask where you got the predicted margins from?

***Game 1 Update***

Tom won by 45 points, so those who went "lower" against the prediction of 49 claim 4 points!

T1st - 4 points - Tim, Dan, Gev
T4th - 0 points - Ray, JC, Tom, Sean

Next update tomorrow!

They are either based on a complex algorithm performed by a super-computer, or were just made up by myself as educated guesses ;-)

I did think that this margin would be wider, along with the majority, but well done to Graeme who played better than what I thought, and additionally for getting the conundrum over Tom, who was very consistent with the conundrums, though Graeme was too. I think my prediction for tomorrow will be more accurate, though.

In future, could it be a good idea for people to come up with their own margins? Maybe with different choices depending on who contests the semis/finals (or change them up as the results come in like real fantasy football)? A lot of people guess winning margins anyway so might as well combine these ideas

I think this could be better. As it is we're just right or wrong but some games have more points available than others.

I thought of doing it this way, but then I didn't think many would be arsed to go into that much detail, so I kept it simple as a first attempt at this sort of thing. Maybe next series if the demand is there (and if I/someone can be bothered to organise it ;-) )

***Game 2 Update***

Bradley snuck through to the quarter finals with a very exciting 6 point victory, so good news for him, but bad news for those who didn't go "lower" against the prediction of 38, as they missed a 32 point haul! Only Gev and Sean claimed the big points on offer today.

1st - 36 points - Gev
2nd - 32 points - Sean
T3rd - 4 points - Tim, Dan
T5th - 0 points - Ray, JC, Tom

We’d have a runaway leader had anyone managed both to predict both QF2 and QF3!

***Game 6 update***

Bradley's 12 point win earned those who went LOWER than the 26 point prediction 14 points (Just Gev and Tom)

Latest standings..........

1st - 64 points - Ray
2nd - 55 points - Gev
3rd - 46 points - Tim
4th - 41 points - Tom
5th - 37 points - Sean
6th - 27 points - JC
7th - 9 points - Dan

Weirdly, that means the only people that can win are Ray, who went HIGHER for every single prediction, and Gev who went LOWER for every single prediction!

Basically, If Brad wins tomorrow or Tom wins by less than 7 points, Gev will win. If Tom wins by 9 points or more, Ray will win, and if Tom wins by 8 points exactly, Ray and Gev will tie.
