A nice way of doing the last numbers was to multiply the two large numbers together first as the target was near to 625. So:

100*50/8-9+7 = 623.

Or maybe even nicer:

(100*50-9-7)/8 = 623.

Rachel did 89*7 and pointed out that it's a product of two primes, but a product of two primes isn't worthy of a mention unless both primes are outside the range of the tables, so at least 13, or preferably at least 17. If one of them is 7, then it makes no difference to how you go about it, relative to, say, something times 6.
