Aye, it certainly sounded like it. Didn't really affect the outcome of the match luckily. Perhaps Nick had just become accustomed to him being a good player and so assumed he'd said the right answer. The only possible thing this could affect is what seed he is for the finals, though fortunately the chance is very minimal. Ultimately the only person who will know what he said is Lawrie himself.

I replayed it several times. Maybe he meant to say TORTUROUS. Maybe he thought he said TORTUROUS. But he actually said TORTUOUS.

I thought he said TORTUOUS and was surprised when Nick said TORTUROUS and expected it to be disallowed. Even Alexander Armstrong on Pointless would have picked that up!

In cases like this it's nice to see what the subtitler put - which was torturous, but then I guess that's not conclusive.
Anyway, Sam was pretty unlucky to come up against the strongest player for a while.
