Spoilers for Friday 11th March 2016 (Series 74 Prelim 35)

Post by Steven M. McCann »

When I heard Erica was a keen Scrabble player and Crossword buff, I thought we might have a competitive game today.

ALONGSIDE in... one of the rounds.
Possibly the first contestant to accelerate with a mic clipped...

When they say they are "Scrabble players", believe me, 90% of them *ain't* Scrabble players :(

If you're a Scrabble player yourself, I can't trust your figures.

That was one of those "there's obviously a nine, but I can't see it" rounds for me.

I used to have this problem until I realised that I was a fucking idiot and as a loose rule, I now just settle for 7 unless there's an obvious 8, cos I know I'll never see the nine. It sounds counter-productive (and would be for a good player) but for us normos, I find I score more doing this in the long term.

Alt 2nd numbers (25+9+10-6)x9 = 342

For an old fashioned alt to HANGRIEST there is INGATHERS of course.

Lots of other alts about such as CAPRINE to CARBINE, ROMAINES to ROMANISE, LIFEBOAT to FIREBOAT.

Me too, I was worrying. But I think I had a fairly tough run overall, this was the only one I felt secure about.

I got ALONGSIDE after the round was over. I should have got the numbers too, and I would get INGATHERS if I played now. Yesterday was my best game so far I think.

Also: HANGRIEST is a word but GIRLIEST isn't? Srsly? Hangry is an absolute meme word, shouldn't be in the dictionary.

I think they put in BS words that no-one actually uses for the publicity and they ignore ones in common use. AWESOMESAUCE v LAGGY for example.
