Second numbers is a rare case where target can be got by inserting operators between numbers given without rearrangement:
75+100+5x8-2+1 :D

I felt sorry for Natalie here. She says she wrote ODONATES down, but didn't risk it.

R10 I wrote down

STEAMED and

M E D U S A E to ensure I had spelt it correctly.

It was a longer word on my paper!

Wow - so unlucky for Natalie as if she had risked odonates she would have won.
I hope Paul gets a good lunch and plays more keenly in the next show.

I guess the trick is to count the letters left over and subtract from 9.

And that's the standard method right there.

A bit late for that as this was the first show of the afternoon session.

Natalie was certainly a tricky opponent and on another day, she could have won.

I think this just proves the importance of tactical picking. Natalie was, as you said, a tricky opponent who seemed to have around the same ability as Paul, but picking two large in that final numbers was definitely not the right thing to do in her situation.

I don't think Paul probably had his best game today. My intuition is that over the long haul, Paul would win more often than not. Well, this might have been an off game for her, but I wouldn't say she was as good as him based on this game because if she'd won with that performance I wouldn't automatically think octochamp.

Unlucky Mark. I've never had one either. I got 1 short in last Friday's game. Thought I'd done it until I looked at the spoilers. Really frustrating.
