Spoilers for Tuesday September 16th 2014 (S71 P46)

Post by Jordan F »

Farhan Ahmed put in his strongest performance thus far to get win number 3. Can he make it 4? Another tough test is upon him though, as apterite Paul Worsley is going to have a chance at the teapot. Does the name ring a bell? It should, for Paul is the father of series 66 champion Jack Worsley, looking to do a reverse of the Styles family in terms of order. Farhan has proven to be strong competition though, let's see what happens.

A few alts kicking about today, and quite a few disallowed words from me as well as Farhan, I just squeezed 2nd place.

Looking forward to seeing more of Paul in action - well done!

Note to self: never think it's safe to browse the wiki within minutes of an episode you recorded to watch later, when the wiki recapper is the proud son of the winning player.

TZARDOMS was an interesting decision. I think it's "meant" to be a mass noun, but derivatives are never listed as such, and it doesn't find anything if you type TZARDOMS into the search bar. Still, we've been told the rules haven't changed so it's WETNESSES and DRYNESSES all the way. I don't think we've gained any precision from the dictionary change.

Yeah, it was a tricky one, but on balance I think it would have been more controversial not to allow it. At least on paper the 15 point swing didn't affect the outcome.

Why would it be a mass noun? You can have two kingdoms, so why not two tzardoms?

Edit: I haven't actually seen the show so a differing explanation might have been offered by DC. Congrats Paul!

From the example sentences, which seem to suggest it's used in a different way (although not so much the second one) and the fact that it doesn't find the plural if you search for it. Susie seemed to think it was a mass noun but allowed it because it wasn't explicitly stated to be so.

TZARDOMS - what a brilliant spot. I don't know what Suzie was dithering about. Well played Paul and congratulations on getting a teapot.

fantastic debut Paul... especially to come back from such a deficit early in the game too and win by such a margin.. an exciting quality game.. well played to both players... This has been a very strong series so far.. I hope you win a lot more games and make the next stage :)

Thanks to everyone for the kind comments.

I hadn't considered that TZARDOMS was controversial at all, so Susie's deliberations had me worried.

I got BAGPIPE early into the round, but never thought to put the R on the end. Durr!!

It's tougher in the studio, guys!

It was certainly a very good game, so congratulations. In particular you came through very strongly at the end, so we're all expecting that form to carry through!

Good game from both; bad luck for Farhan to become the latest victim of a Worsley!

Just caught up on 4OD - what a good game. Very well played, Paul, and very unlucky, Farhan. No need for any uncertainty about TZARDOMS - a clear-cut "yes" would have sufficed.

This is the worst alt ever, you've taken a word offered by DC, singularised it, offered it as an equaller to a word that wasn't their max, then offered the pluralised version that they gave.

Well done though Paul! Very good.
