Nice quiet show today - nobody shouting at Rachel that she was hiding the letters board as she put the letters up.

Round 13: Don't understand why Susie allowed CAPITOLS?
Although listed in all lowercase, it's also listed as *US* on the ODO ... plus it neither lists it as a verb nor noun.
??!!??

When the ODE was used, American words were fine (SIDEWALK, MAILBOX etc.) but American spellings were not (COLOR, TRAVELED etc.). Now that the ODO is being used, there is some extra confusion because we are referred to some entries from the US English dictionary (e.g. MACROLIDE, BIGEMINY) - it says 'Entry from US English dictionary'. These are not allowed.szodiac wrote:Round 13: Don't understand why Susie allowed CAPITOLS?

However, CAPITOL is found in the regular English (UK) dictionary. And whilst it is a US word, it is not a US spelling (what would the equivalent British spelling be?), meaning it is allowed. And it's obviously a noun.

Interesting fact of the day: David became the first person in the challengers' chair to win a game since Tricia Pay on July 23
PARROTED/PRORATED/TEARDROP in round 5, LOURING in round 8 and APSIDES in round 12.
Yeah, was slightly surprised they missed MITIGABLE, considering they spotted IMITABLE, but hey-ho.Tony Atkins wrote:Also I sadly missed the 9, that DC also missed, from IMITABLE+G.

And because (4x8)-6 = (3x6)+8, you could also do ((75x4)+6)x(10-7)+8 but also out of time - and showing off a bit, sorryTony Atkins wrote:Alt 2nd numbers (out of time) ((10-7)x75+8)x4-6
Re: Spoilers for Tuesday August 26th 2014 (S71 P33)
Thanks Conor! Good enough for me but the ODO still doesn't distinguish between "meaning what it says" and "saying what it means", it's too open for misinterpretation in it's definitions and needs so careful reading and understanding.Conor wrote:When the ODE was used, American words were fine (SIDEWALK, MAILBOX etc.) but American spellings were not (COLOR, TRAVELED etc.).
