Jason Turner got the highest score of the series so far yesterday en route to win number 2. Can he get a 3rd today?

Opponent today should be Tricia Pay (so I've been told from the Scrabble group). IIRC she should be related to a former contestant Richard Pay, an octochamp from series 51.

Also you may wish to tune into Des Chiffres Des Lettres afterwards (I watch it on www.filmon.com/tv/france-3) to see how Jeff Clayton gets on.

In the SPOILAGE round, there was another 8-letter word, but in obsolete (?) OED.
(Source: Wiktionary)

AEGILOPS (plural aegilopses)
1.An ulcer or fistula in the inner angle of the eye.
2.(obsolete) The wild-oat or other grass found as a corn-weed.

References[edit]
Oxford English Dictionary, 1884-1928, and First Supplement, 1933

I only knew of that word because it's the longest one with all its letters in alphabetical order.
(Susie might have known of it.)

My favourite episode for a very very long time - dramatic, funny, and a very high standard of play.

The only thing wrong with it was that there had to be a loser.

Apterites know it of course as one of the variants on there (as also spoilage is).

Well done to Tricia - she seemed familiar from some other intellectual show presumably.

A cheeky beater of 6 available in the MOTTO+FEUP reound, otherwise the players got all between them.

EDIT: though TOUPET seemed to be in ODE 2 but not in ODE 3, ODO says it's a French word - so no 6 then.

Happy to oblige. Normally they do best of three matches so expect to see him tomorrow. If only France 3 could delay starting by about 5 minutes and C4 to start earlier at 2.30 pm there'd be no clash. I do collect stills from all DCDL rounds from every episode.

Just to confirm there is NO connection with Richard from series 51 but *has* appeared on Countdown before on Series 29 where her only game was with all conquering Chris Rogers.

Looks like this isn't Tricia's first appearance on the show: http://wiki.apterous.org/Tricia_Pay

Great performance from her today. Sad to see Jason go.

Brilliantly exciting game and great standard by both players! After Jason's previous performances, I thought he was on for octochampdom so very well played Tricia, think that may have been a twelve max. I think she'll go a long way, unless there's anyone else of any note lined up.

SENHORA in round 8.
