Spoilers for Tuesday March 18th 2014 (S70 P48)

Post by Jordan F »

I'm back. Been awhile because of the weird schedule, but I'm back.

Ruth Erwin has had two wins, Can she get a third now to keep this week going on a good note?

That guy was pretty good. Sure-fire octo. Would take a 1600 player or over on Apterous to beat him.

I'm very disappointmed with Nick!, the new champion is a dead ringer for Eddie "The Eagle" Edwards, and Nick never mentioned it!

Sad to see Ruth beaten in her third game by someone called Cliff as I know the feeeling!
Is he the first tie-wearer since Roger Edwards?

In the first numbers I saw Rachel's way first, then (100+10-8)x(7-1)+8 as an alt.
VOMITED as one of the alts to VENOMED.

I stupidly missed the 9, sticking on ATOMISER/ATOMISED, so lost by 3 points on the conundrum.
I am approx 1400 on aterous so maybe he's not 1600, but Mr Lee should win a few.

Grant Waters wore a tie during the Series 67 finals, though not sure about prelims.

Afraid so, 116-66. Although, in fairness this Cliff guy is very, very impressive. As AP says, barring a mental breakdown, octochampdom beckons :!: :!:

DOMINEE/EMOTIVE/TEMENOI in round 4, NONAGES/ONAGERS in round 8 and VIDEOES in round 11 (since Tim made it sound like DC had normal VIDEOS.)

4th Numbers Alt.: ((50 - (6 - 5)) x 8) + 75 - 4 = 463

I wouldn't say it was a certainty, as we've seen people make impressive starts and disappoint before. If he keeps playing like this, he's got a great chance, though. Very impressive debut performance and it'll take a good player to stop him.

Never thought that guy would do so well when he missed 700 - 80 in the first numbers! Luckily for me his body language told me there was an easy way to get to 521.

Yeah, I was stunned he picked 6 small after missing 7*100-8*10. Even my daughter looked at me as if to say "do you think I'm fucking stupid or something?" within about half a second when I told her to have a go at it. I've noticed in the last few days that Rachel seems to be showing some slightly more complex solutions - I do think she should always go with the simplest available (I mean, I know sometimes you miss the simpler ones if you start off on a certain route, but I doubt that was the case). I think it's better for people to see they could have probably got it, rather than thinking "oh, you had to go up to 3750, I never would have got that".

Yep. Maybe RR doesn't always see the simpler solutions but like you say she seems to be going the complicated way rather a lot recently, so I imagine she does more than it appears. As Tony wrote, in this case there was another way to do the 620 by adding a 2 [10-8] to the 100 before multiplying by the 6 [7-1] which led to the correct answer, which was really just a modification of what the contestants did, and in these sort of circumstances I think it would be good for RR to mention what they could have done by just a slight adjustment. As she never does, maybe she is told not to, but I think it would help.

He was solid but didn't pull out loads of brilliant spots and still missed quite a bit. I know I'm not the most reliable yardstick, but I still beat him quite comfortably, so although he racked up the points, I'd say the jury's still out.
