Spoilers for Tuesday February 18th 2014 (S70 P32)

Post by Jordan F »

Another win for our own Brett Davids yesterday. Can he get a third today? I can't remember if this is actually tomorrow, but I do believe that in the way today is...not quite an apterite, but someone close. Jon Stitcher has not been on Countdown in quite sometime. And it will stay that way for now, however his sister is going to get a chance to carry on her brother's legacy. I believe this is today, but it may be tomorrow depending on how much my memory failed me.

Also, for James: :D :) ;) 8-) :P     :!: :!: :!: Happy birthday to you sir.

Join Callum for the recap later (unless they switched for his birthday which wouldn't surprise me).

Was a 20x25-14 solution too boring there?

I split the third numbers into 75x11, but I guess some may have done (150x11)/2?

Yeah, that's the way I expected Rachel to show us, as she seems to like being needlessly ostentatious with numbers solves these days. Not that I'm criticising of course, that would be massively hypocritical :)

Another solid one there Brett, lots of tricky rounds there. Looking forward to see how far you go.

Last numbers also could have done:
50 x (9 - 8/4) - 25 + 10 but I bet Tony's done it now ;)

Was hoping Brett would get the last numbers to get over 100 again, but when I got the solution like Rachel I guessed correctly that he would not. Looking forward to more tomorrow.

If it's an easy numbers game but the players both miss it, maybe she deliberately goes for a more complicated solve in order to spare their blushes? There's been several of those this series.

Always kind of thought she just goes with what she thinks looks best if she has done it in 2 or 3 ways

TERAFLOP in round 1 and MESOSAUR in round 5.

If Jenny hadn't misdeclared with FLOUNCE, it could have been an interesting finish. To be fair, it doesn't sound like a seven-letter-word. Well done again though Brett on another solid win, you look capable of going far.

I did feel rather sorry for Jenny as she really deserved to be closer at the end, as both FLOUNCE and the messed-up numbers gave me a larger lead than my performance really warranted. UNTITLED was a fantastic spot.

I think I'd go so far as to say that her natural ability exceeded mine, but the hours I'd put into Apterous (I'm looking at you, ASTROID) saw me over the line on this occasion.

I notice that the invitation Nick gave to Jon in the studio to come back on the show was cut out in the edit. Although tomorrow's challenger is the second returnee of the week, so it looks like the lines are becoming increasingly blurred...

PISHOGUE and FUNICLE are the only vaguely interesting ones I have to offer, though they've already been said..... awesome game from both today.

I think Jenny was unlucky, whilst Brett was definitely a better all round player I don't think a 42 point scoreline was a fair reflection.

Watching it back today you could see that after the FLOUNCE error she'd admitted defeat, I'd texted her a list of words that come up commonly and ASTROID was one of them so I was hoping she'd catch it but alas.

I didn't say anything at the time, but after watching your earlier show she seemed quite deflated saying you were too good for her. I told her to have faith but the numbers were pretty tricky which did for her in the end.

All in all though, Brett was a very worth champion but I think if Jenny had put the effort in on apterous it could have been a different story.
