Interesting article on page 1 of the Guardian today (27.11.2012) about historical deletion of foreign words from OED by anglocentric editor.

BALISAUR and BOVIANDER would've been great Countdown words. What an idiot.

Well it's a stack of new pencils to arrive at some point in the next few years, assuming they filter through to the relevant edition.
