That is when Series 65 will resume, but there are going to be 2 more specials shown on the 15th and 16th August. 8-)
UPDATE: The specials have now been postponed. So, no Countdown for 19 more days. :(

What on earth has happened there? There must be some motivation for C4 wanting to pack in yet more repeats of Noel Edmonds and his boxes at the expense of the only two Countdowns in a near four-week chunk of the calendar, but I can't immediately see what it is.

In the absence of information, let's speculate wildly!

I heard that Deal Or No Deal inflating itself into Countdown's old time slot isn't enough for Noel, and now he wants to take over the whole programme himself. He likes the idea of stretching out a single letter selection to over half an hour...

how about Channel 4, showing classic countdown encounters, from yesteryear.
Maybe we could all nominate our favourites and send a list for Damo.
Sort it out by the 30th and I will deliver it personally.

It wont? Aw. I was looking forward to finding out that Jeff had kidnapped Rachel as a baby, Susie found a precious but cursed emerald in dictionary corner, everyone had slept with everyone else and that the whole previous series had just been dreamt by Carol Vorderman.

"I don’t think Jeff was very happy about the decision, but perhaps he should have thought about that when he originally quit, out of the blue."

It seems Channel 4 has accidentally employed a seven year old's mother to do their PR.

I wonder what the truth of this story is? Nothing like what's being reported, I bet.

Dam. I've been tricked into reading a newspaper. Anyway who's this idiot in charge of Channel 4? Changing Countdown and 10 O'clock live? Is she a total moron? I hope I'm right in assuming all newspapers are just full of lies.

Oh... my... gosh!

Can we say this Jay lady has "Jerry Lewis syndrome?" Google the latest headline about him if you want to know what I'm talking about.

I personally am against having a woman take Jeff's place. It just doesn't seem right. If I remember correctly, wasn't Chris Tarrant's ex-wife supposed to guest host Countdown before Richard Whiteley passed away? Well, it looks like she's out of the picture because Carol Vorderman isn't on the show anymore. What are they going to do now.

P.S. I retract my former statement. Jeff Stelling is not Countdown's Drew Carey. Rejoice Kirk.

God yeah, I remember when Sue Barker first took over A Question Of Sport, it was a nightmare. Breastfeeding the Mystery Guests, menstruating all over the Picture Board, not understanding the offside rule, doing the dishes instead of playing the Home & Away round, etc. John Parrott fucking puked all over the floor he was so disgusted. I'd link to the episode on Youtube but it seems to have been taken down and replaced with a shampoo advert (one with some very suspicious sounding audio, I might mention).

Sue Barker may not be David Coleman, but she is not a bad host either.

Victoria Coren, on the other hand, is not a good fit for Only Connect. I would much rather see someone like Michael Aspel on that show instead. He just seems like the type who could handle it well.

Also, I believe he's not on Priceless Antiques Roadshow anymore.

I've got a ticket for a recording on the afternoon of SUNDAY 27th November (is that a first?). Tickets have said hosted by Jeff and Rachel, but this says nothing. I gather Paul Zenon is in the corner though. No other recordings are mentioned so this must be a special -is any contributor on this board a contestant?

I was under the impression it was the first recordings with the new host, with more to follow on December 12 (also with Paul Zenon in DC), and the 8/10 Cats special was another day, but I may have got it wrong. Whatever, I hope the ID of said person is revealed soon!

Yeah, as I said to Jono in one of the spolier threads, I genuinely have no idea how he's going to be. What we see on the Apprentice probably won't directly transfer to hosting Countdown (as his input is generally quite sarcastic and critical), so it's going to be interesting. Good luck to him, obviously, and I hope he's great!

I imagine Nick Hewer will only show the same disdain for Countdown contestants as he does budding Apprentices if they arrive spouting phrases such as "My positive approach and very good looks make me stand out from the crowd" or "I am the champion thoroughbred that this process requires".

Fact is he can not be worse than Des O'Connor and will probably be significantly better than many of the big names (with matching salaries and egos) who are normally touted around would be.

The Mirror a bit out of date:

"He lives in a luxury home in Northamptonshire and will travel to work in Leeds, where Countdown is filmed."

I don't watch reality shows, so haven't seen him much. I saw that Would I Lie To You? episode not long ago, and thought he made a good comedy game show panelist. Difficult to call it yet, but might be better than Jeff at the banter.

Just read that our new host will be appearing as a guest panellist on Have I Got News For You on December 16th, the same day as Jeff's last show :!:

If you can't wait til then to see him, may I point you to the Would I Lie To You? unseen bits episode shown on Friday, especially the bit where he talks about his hats about 10 minutes in: http://www.bbc.co.uk/iplayer/episode/b0 ... Episode_9/

Or you can watch Young Apprentice on Mondays at 9pm on BBC One.
