Richard and Carol's chemistry had stuck from the very beginning, I thought. Richard wasn't exactly unknown when Countdown started.

And I always welcome new people to the forum because they have a reason to be here. It is because they love Countdown, they go to town and Jeff, Jeff Stelling, they may not love them so but they still love Countdown!

I've been a Countdown enthusiast from the beginning. I even remember when Carol Vorderman only did the numbers, and there was a dolly-bird for the letters. After Richard 'twice nightly' Whitely left us, I coped with the other presenters.
Hey Mike welcome to the forum.

I don't suppose you would happen to have any old episodes on any tapes?

Hello everyone!

My name is Ty and I'm an actuary. There, I said it.

I've been a Countdown fan since I was a kid and watch everyday (thanks to the marvels of Sky+ :) ). I haven't yet been on the show, though I thought about sending off for an application in 1997. My head keeps telling me I'm getting better at the game with age, so should wait until just before I shuffle off this mortal coil before I apply.

So, based on anecdotal evidence that your performance is improving, you extrapolate that the improvement is factual and will continue indefinitely into the future. You see your own mortality as deterministic and ignore morbidity considerations. You also take no account of the change in the overall standard of contestants, or the possibility of the demise of Countdown itself. This actuarial stuff has got a whole lot easier since I was doing it!

How goes it folks. My names obviously Andy and i'm in Cork, Ireland, doing a diploma in music, management and sound. I'm 29 and i started watching countdown with my grandad when i was a kid. About 18 months i moved into a place that had a telly after not having one for ages and i gradually got sucked back in. I'm a bit of a soccer enthusiast also, so Jeff's appointment had my full approval. Not sure about that les-spure tea time teaser last week though... eh... anyway, do carry on, i'll probably just pop in once in a while... you'll hardly even notice me.

I'm going to stick my neck out and say that "Andrea" is the invention of somebody close to these forums. I'd like to say that it's because her punctuation and spelling is a bit too correct, even with the "OMG" stuff that has been thrown in, or because it is strange that she hasn't posted until now. Or because the "from Peterborough" bit just sounds like a piss-take. But mainly it is because I don't believe that anybody can beat Kirk Bevins.

Haha, blatant piss-take. Hilarious. My guess is Jono.

What's even more ludicrous than a woman (lol) beating Kirk, is that "her" post also implies that she then loses her next game :)

Aaaarrrggghhh! I only check the welcome thread these days when I'm up to date watching the programmes, as newbies often do spoilers.

Hi
I'm a recent "returner" to Countdown, having found the presenters after Richard very difficult to appreciate. However, I won't be watching from now on as the presenters are cringe-making! Of all the available personalities why choose false, cold uncharismatic folk??? They really distract me from my love of words and I think Suzie feels the same???

Wow, I'm always amazed that people don't like CD nowadays after putting up with Richard Whitely, possibly the most cringeworthy presenter in the history of telly! Apart from Pat and Mick maybe.

So: you went to all the trouble of signing up to this board - which exists so that people who watch Countdown can talk about it - just so you could post a message telling us you don't watch Countdown. Weird. And you like Susie but can't be bothered to spell her name correctly. And you love words but can't punctuate for shit. Hmm.
