Was this a first?

Post by James Chapman »

Half way through yesterday's (Thursday 12 Aug) show I saw what I have never seen before on screen.

The Countdown clock was winding on clockwise back to the top and visible behind the contestant. I guess that the audience would see this but camera choice would ensure that its not seen on the telly.

Anyone else see this or see it any other time?

Happened a few times mate. There's a competition after Series 64 asking how many times, since 1982, the viewer sees the clock zoom back to the start. The winner wins a Countdown hamper and automatic entry into Series 65.

I remember seeing in the Des Lynam days, in the first two rounds of an episode, the clock lights not actually coming on. It looked really odd seeing the hand going round without the trail of lights following, then in round 3 they were back on with no explanation or anything.

Surely if there was a fault or something, they should wait until its fixed.

I think they did - isn't that what claimed Richard Whiteley?

No it could have been due to a desperate attempt at sarcasm by a killjoy and a fanatic lol ;)

You're too old to have a mother? Or a mouth? Either way, that sucks.
