We had a night out in Manchester, Des L, Jeff, Rach, Susie and the team - and drank far too much, hence next week's shows rarely feature anything more than a 4 from DC.

Wow, a message from the Queen, impressive stuff. Those doomsayers from when Carol left seem well and truly proven wrong now. Here's hoping for thousands more!

And who really gives a shit what you think?

Gavin and Julie, the gruesome twosome, who between them have so few brain cells they know them all by name. Sad that you have to hijack a celebratory thread with your own brand of bullshit, but nonetheless very predictable.

Damian states that people who disagree with him must be thick. How very predictable.

He only said that you and Gevin are thick, which is quite a different claim.

Agreed! I'm sure a lot of hard work by a lot of people has gone in to the first 5,000 shows - as they will for the next 5,000. Cheers to all concerned.

Look at the title of the thread, it wasn't and isn't really the time and the place for you to start knocking our monarch. Thick may be an incorrect word to use, granted, so i'll offer stupid, ignorant and distasteful as substitutes.

The Sun failed to crowbar a pair of jubblies into its article, but managed to report the event in its own sophisticated way. (Edit: the paper version did say Her Maj had sent her best.)

Classy

Really looking forward to today. Congrats to everyone who's helped make it the success it is today, and with many more to come :D

Is there a league table of contributors? Carol must still be way in front for the number of appearances, but is there anyone behind the scenes with an even better count? I know there's been a good few long-servers, which I'm sure is a big factor in Countdown's longevity. Anyone with a full 5000? There must be an MBE in this.

Nobody with the full 5000 i'm afraid. Of those still on the show, there's Cindy Ritson with appx 4000 under her belt, then yours truly, who's chalked up a little over 3000.

All enough to turn anyone insane.

You don't have to be mad to work on/enjoy Countdown, but it helps. 8-)

Happy 5000 to all of you too, Damian!

There were people who disliked Countdown once Jeff and Rachel took over. What were they talking about?
