Who Do You Think Will Win Series 61?

Post by Douglas Wilson »

Pretty self explanatory really, although feel free just to vote on the poll or to post some reasoning with it.

My prediction:

AH V JB – I can see this being a similar game to Kirk v Julie in series 60, with Jacky generally keeping up with Andrew, particularly if the rounds are flat but never really looking like beating him on a round with an obscure Darren. AH by around 18 points.

CD V SW – With respect to Steve who could only beat what was in front of him; I feel there are better players than him that have already been knocked out. I think Chris will win this by 40+ points.

IC V JB – Jeff is probably the most likeable of all the competitors but by his own admission he is out of practice and is coming up against a machine in Innis. Innis by 30+ points.

RT V BS – Could be a really good game, Brian’s first performance must be up there with one of the best individual performances of the series. I think Ryan’s apto knowledge might just see him come out on top though. Ryan by less than 12 points.

AH V RT – I think Andrew will have enough word power to beat Ryan and the margin could be larger than what he beats Jackie by as I can see Ryan having more of a will to win and throwing in some risky words whereas I think Jackie will be more focused on losing by a small margin. AH by around 25 points.

CD V IC – I really hope that nerves don’t get the better of these two, because if they play at their best it promises to be one of the highest standard games of televised Countdown ever. It really could go either way, I think Chris might just sneak it; one of the reasons I think this is due to the fact I think he had a tougher run in the prelims than Innis. CD by 12 points.

AH V CD – Should be another high quality game and again it could go either way. Andrew has the advantage of the seemingly more relaxed demeanour but I think Chris has the better word power and will sneak it. CD by 18 points.

Also, Innis to beat Andrew in the finals after winning on a crucial against Chris in the semis, when both get a 13 max game. :D

Also there will be 1 max game in the series from one of the big 3.

Er, doesn't this spoiler today's show? (Assuming this means Jacqueline is definitely in the finals, rather than you just guessing.)

Maybe they could vote for who they thought would win before seeing them, would rely on a lot of honesty though!

On the Series 60 version of this thread, also created by Douglas Wilson: http://www.c4countdown.co.uk/viewtopic. ... hilit=cate; Howard asks if all of the top 8 on the leaderboard are able to compete as I think there has been the odd drop out in previous series. Charlie obviously didn't think it was too spoilerific for this forum as he answered before the shows were transmitted, so could somebody who was at the Series 61 recordings confirm or deny if all players took part?

I'm going to go for Innis. He impressed me the most in the heats and I don't think he will suffer too badly from nerves in the finals. Of the eight contenders, Innis is the only person to remain undefeated against Armchair Martin.

Based on a mixture of playing along at home and in the studio and playing on Apterous, I'm saying that Chris will win as he's the only one I've not beaten.

I think Chris will win it, although it is such a shame that three such great contestants are in the same series as him, Innis and Andrew are all easily good enough to win a series.

It's interesting to se how few votes Andrew Hulme has got compared to Chris and Innis - 3 compared to 11 and 10.

I don't know if you noticed, Kirk, but roughly 100% of Ralph's posts contain some kind of creepy and slightly tragic innuendo.

Lol, I was just going to post about that in the GOTW suggestions thread:

That's the 2nd time your legendary Facebook pictures have been mentioned on here! Are you going to open them up so we can all have a look?

There's just too many tbh. When you make it your 'thing' to go to every single college fancy dress party wearing hot pants there inevitably are.

Haha, well I just managed to somehow get into it. We're on the same network or something. But yeah, looks like you're pretty much up for anything, Cowgirl!

Oh, cowgirl is by faaar the tamest of the things that suggest homosexual tendencies within my albums. :P

Although I didn't go quite as far as join the games of 'gay chicken' during Freshers', which ended with some straight guys attempting to beat gay guys.

It's a real tricky one, I can't really see anyone outside the big three (Andrew, Chris and Innis) winning. There's not much in it between those three, but I'll pick Andrew to win, I think a possible Chris vs Innis semi will take a bit of a toll mentally on the winner of that semi, and Andrew may be the fresher for the final (assuming he makes it there), but who knows, it's a real pick-em, which makes this series very exciting.

Good luck to all the finalists. 8-)

I went for Innis based on how I played against the three favourites on TV performances alone (from my rather more comfortable position) . Online I think Chris has a slight edge over Innis but you wouldn't ever take him for granted (as my huge negative score against him attests). As for Andrew, he lacks the nerdiness of the other two (no offence lads), and just seems a lot more relaxed and may thrive in the TV setting.

Looking forward to it.
