So do Kerry Katona and Amy Winehouse. Not really sufficient recommendation on its own.

One thing that gets Countdown talked about is when rude words are expunged from the recording. Perhaps the show needs a bit more WANKING and FARTING in order to be taken seriously by the Daily Rail and its ilk.

Perhaps they could do a late-night Countdown Uncut which includes those words. Actually, why stop at coarse words? Rachel could wear a thong and place the letters on the board with sticky nipple patches, leather-clad Suzie could be the dominatrix who gently whips the contestants (once for each letter in their word) and, not wishing to be sexist, Jeff can wear a thong, too. How the contestants can earn bonus points I'll leave to your imagination.

I didn't, because where would it end? If we took an inclusive approach, who knows how long we'd be running this thread for? Take this forum, for example, with its mighty melange of metaphorical mammary mimickers. 8-)

I see we've got Rory McGrath for the finals. A bloke that I've already met. How strange - I haven't exactly met many celebrities!

Then proceeded to tell the Welsh version of Countdown joke.

Since December 9th is a Wednesday, would I be right in assuming that the new series will start recording on Monday 7th :?:

P.S. When will Series 62 start broadcasting :?:

New series goes out from Jan 11th, starting in studio Dec 7.

Better check with Derek though, in case there are any changes

Yeah yeah Damian.

Anyway.

How about in honour of the importance of the number 9 in Countdown, having a week of nonagenarian guests in Dictionary Corner? We could have the crime writer P.D. James, the wartime singer Vera Lynn, the comedian Norman Wisdom, the wartime cook Marguerite Patten, and the actor Herbert Lom.

At their ages, one show would probably be enough, and you could pay them pro rata-ly.

Can't remember if he's been on before, but I reckon Gervase Phinn would be a great guest with his anecdotes, poems etc.

Also Damian lookalike - comedian Stewart Lee should be given a go. ;)

The top top choice would be the great Harry Hill though, it could be done as a favour for allowing his pal, the knitted character, on Countdown a few weeks ago. 8-)

How about a few to even up the Sun (banned in Liverpool & many fire-stations) columnists who pop up regularly?

Tommy Sheridan
Jimmy Reid
Dennis Skinner
George Galloway
Derek Hatton
Jim Sillars
Arthur Scargill
Any other likely Left-Wingers (in the political rather than the football sense)

George Galloway would be an excellent choice, doesnt take himself too seriously, always up for a laugh, plus has some amusing anecdotes about Westminster etc.

:!: Let's ask Damian to get people like Kaye Adams on - she's a columnist for the Daily Record. Then of course, there's Donal MacIntyre, who's written for the Guardian, or we could ask him to invite some politically neutral people like, I dunno, Rory McGrath or even Steve Davis. Come to that, some sportsmen would really add to the mix - anyone got Matt le Tissier's number?

If you really wanted to balance the whole thing he could invite Jerry Springer, but even I think Jerry on Countdown's a bit far-fetched.

I guess a week really is a long time in politics.

Yeah, sorry, I've had a bit of a nark on about the whole thing, really. I watch it for the words and as long as the guests aren't coming out with immense propaganda I tend to enjoy whoever it is for whatever merits they bring at the time. Usually. I'm quite happy with controversy; it makes for an interesting talking point.

I'd like to see George Galloway too, for the record. Although I think I'd prefer it as a 'would like to meet'. I'd like to find out why he thought going on Big Brother would bring the masses out of apathy about politics.

Off to get some sleep - I'm much nicer after that ;)
