Birthdays

Not sure if this is the right place to start a topic on Birthdays (could do with a calendar feature too) anyway happy birthday to Chris Wills and Charlie Reams.

Cheers. There is a feature on this message board for people to enter their birthday on their profile but barely anyone has, and I'm not sure what it then does with that information.

On the homepage (front screen) at the bottom, it lists whoever has a birthday today and their age, so it says Charlie Reams (22). Congrats.

My birthday is September 22, and I was born in 1986.

I also find it interesting that Lucy Dent (Susie's older daughter,) was born not long after Thea was.

Oh

I thought someone had a circa-Easter birthday, but that's ok.

If someone has a birthday on a holiday, I just happen to think it's a coincidence.

Happy birthday to James Martin (19). Whoever you might be.

I checked the wiki and there was a James Martin back in series 34 (1st seed & semi-finalist, no less) but that was in 1997 so he would have been about 8 at the time, which doesn't seem very likely. He also beat Ray McPhie (a former series champ) in CoC, whose son I have conversed with on another, non-Countdown-related forum. Fancy that, eh?

There's the James Martin who did this:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1XQo6PwS358

That's the one Corby referred to.

The other James Martin I know is a guy from a couple of years back who dominated the online scene for a while. Widely regarded as a cheaty cheat cheat cheat now, as he has just disappeared into thin air.

I have that in my favorites on Youtube, and I didn't just put it there. It's been there for a while.

And it implied how Richard Whiteley shone like the sun with a smiley face.

I hope you're resting in peace, Richard.

Actually, up until this point I knew of only one famous British Jerry.

It was Jerry Desmonde, a panelist on the British version of What's My Line. He passed away a long time ago.

Then, I remembered, Jerry Humphreys had maintained a Countdown website for a while. I don't know if that website is still around, but regardless I hope Jerry Humphreys has a happy birthday.

I can't argue with the stats I suppose, but not all my posts are utter nonsense. I think most of my posts will be due to:

Countdown Conundrum - Setting challenges and solving set puzzles.
Hypercountdown Conundrum - Again solving set puzzles.
Episode Spoilers - Posting spoilers and commenting on the players.
Off-Topic - Other games like Scrabble and Poker.

I try at least to make all my posts tie in with the thread and not just post random words and phrases that don't fit in with the topic at all.
Jason Larsen wrote:Joseph, the answer to your question? Seconds, after I searched ukgameshows.com.
So to clarify, when you said that you was thinking of someone else named Jerry and because you didn't have a name, you went onto ukgameshows.com, typed in Jerry in the search engine and was able to come up with the name Jerry Desmonde as its the only result there that is a UK name.

Strictly speaking, Jerry Springer is British as well. He still holds the distinction of giving away the biggest prize ever awarded on (Channel) Five: 160 grand on "Greed" back in 2001.

Also, Joseph, yes, Jerry Desmonde was the only lifelong British resident I could think of. That was until I had thought of Jerry Humphreys who had maintained that website and has a birthday today.

So, again, happy birthday, Jerry Humphreys!

Oh yeah, whoops! :D

You could probably log yourself in as me in all kinds of places using my email address and the password I use on this site (as owner/admin can you see them?)

I remember reading an article a while ago actually about how, while people are generally getting sharper online (and are less likely to confirm their bank details to an anonymous emailer who asks them), they drop their guard offline. They did a faux questionnaire thing in some American park, and people happily parted with their names, addresses, dates of birth, mothers' maiden names, pets names, kids' names, what bank they used, etc etc, just because it was a friendly-looking person in a bib not seemingly fishing for banking details, but doing some general survey about people who use the park. Or something. Interesting.

I can't (they're stored hashed) although if your password is something boring then it wouldn't be that hard to brute force it. Obviously I'm not going to bother but it's not inconceivable that someone could hack the server and steal the database. So I wouldn't use the same password here as for anything important.
