Sources vary, but most would say that kryptonite is a fictional substance, normally green, that is lethal to Superman and other inhabitants of the planet Krypton. It may be cancerous to humans after long exposure. If it ever was humorous to describe the perspex mementos handed out in series finals as being kryptonite, it certainly doesn't bear repeating every single time.

I love my priceless piece of Kryptonite.
And my sociopathic little niece (4) is fascinated by it, and regularly asks if we can use it to "kill yuperman"... with an excited and conspiratorial glint in her eye.
