Oxford Anagram Finder

Post by Noel Mc »

Someone in work gave me a copy of the above mentioned anagram book, published by Oxford in 1999. Anyone have any idea of its validity?

Just guessing... that it's pretty good? The English language hasn't changed too drastically since then, and Oxford are C4C's favourites.
However, the regular updates... words added, word removed... will not be accounted for.

There was a particularly far reaching update in 2015 that the Apto-community are still reeling from. It was a bit of a game changer (literally)

What is it? Just a list of anagrams? If anything, more new words have been added than have been removed so there probably won't be many dodgy words.

COD9 (the dictionary Countdown was using in 1999) contained about a third as many words as the present electronic edition, so (assuming Noel was asking about it's validity as a Countdown training/adjudication tool) it's probably quite useless.

It's got 9 chapters, unimaginatively titled 'Four Words' through to 'Twelve Words'.

Each chapter is basically just a list of words arranged in alphabetical order (once they themselves have been rearranged.

Four Words starts with:

AAAB - ABBA BABA
AABC - CABA
AABD - BAA'D
AABG - AGBA

Not gonna lie, it's a pretty boring read

Could be useful to learn some words (obviously not check them)

"Four Words" through to "Twelve Words" seem like odd choices for the chapter names too.
