Who would you like to see in DC?

Possibly the most self-explanatory thread title ever... Following on from the David Mitchell comments, who is it you would most like to see in Dictionary Corner? Toss-up between two people for me- Ronnie Corbett (genuine funny man, surely hundreds of fantastic anecdotes) and Patrick Stewart (don't really have to explain this one surely).

Anyone?

Theres loads I would like to see in DC, but all I can think of so far are:

Any famous chef.
Any pannelist from QI, Mock The Week and/or Have I Got News For You.
James May, Richard Hammond and/or Jeremy Clarkson.

EDIT: There are some people who have been on before who do come in my categories, so it would be excluding them obviously.

Regulars on non-Channel-4 panel shows might be difficult for contractual reasons, but most of those would be good. Patrick Stewart is an excellent idea. Craig Charles? Stephen Merchant (who I'm convinced is more talented than Ricky Gervais)?

Oh. You're talking about contestants.

Well, there is only one contestant that I would love to see in Dictionary Corner. He definitely deserved to win, and his name is Michael MacDonald Cooper.

I do like the idea of former contestants in DC but it would only really appeal to a small number of people- namely the geeks who are signed up to this forum.

If David Mitchell doesn't come off then Jeff Stelling would be VERY good.

Jeff Stelling would get my vote as Greatest Living Englishman. The man is a god.

I'd also like Richard Herring, please. He's a self-confessed nerd and media whore so I'm sure he'd be up for it. He might make a couple of ill-judged jokes about paedophilia and/or dead babies that could sit uneasily within the afternoon timing of the show, but he'd be very funny.

For a truly surreal watching experience, though, there's only one logical choice - Frank Sidebottom.

Someone expressed concern that David Mitchell wouldn't be palatable to an older audience when in fact his image is so middle England that I am sure they would love him: he already sounds like a grumpy old man albeit a mightily humourous one. Richard Herring might go a little nearer the knuckle but I was a big fan of Lee and Herring and think he would be awesome.

I wouldn`t like former contestants to be in Dictionary Corner.
Winning games of Countdown is not automatically a qualification for Dictionary Corner.
Don`t forget too, that Countdown winners and charisma don`t always come together in one packet.

Rich Hall is a good Scrabbler, apparently. He wrote a song about falling in love with a Scrabbler that has the immortal line, "I gave her ROSES and she gave me SORES." I would love to see him in DC though he may not everyone's cup of tea at tea-time.

PS I could imagine Richard Herring doing his anecdote bit and finishing with the line "....of course they were all Howler monkeys when I had finished with them." :o

Sorry to quote my own post, but current champion, Tony, is an example of the above.
I appreciate that people can be shy or nervous and that this can often cause them to appear rude.
But watching the last 2 days has caused me to lapse into a severe state of depression.

Celebrities who we would love to see on Countdown

by Jason Larsen
As we all know, Des O'Connor loves people. When those of us in the world see a big name that we do not normally see on a game show, it brings a smile to all of our faces.

I will now compile a list of celebrities who I would love to see make guest appearances on Countdown.

I'll start off with:

1. Betty White
2. Robert Redford
3. Cliff Richard
4. Judi Dench

This is only a rough draft, so if anyone wants to add to this list, feel free.

I love Judi Dench.
And she loves words.

Oh, and Ronnie Corbett for sure. :)

Ben:

I meant to ask what celebrities we would like to appear on Countdown and not be in Dictionary Corner. In other words, celebrities who stop by the Countdown set to say hi to Des O'Connor. Des has many friends, like Robert Redford and Cliff Richard.

I believed Ralph when he said that he loves Judi Dench and Judi loves words. Des also met Robert Redford when Robert was at a benefit event in England.

I'm also sure that Des has seen reruns of The Golden Girls on the Sky Network, so he knows who Betty White is. She could say, "Thank you for being a friend."

Ben, please delete all the posts on this topic since yesterday from this thread and move them to my original thread.

Does andy know if Damian was successful in getting David Mitchell as a guest for DC.

Over the past few weeks, it hasn't been a bad selection of guests to be honest Jo Brand, Paul Zenon and Keith Baron. I would like to see some more newcomers on or also some ones who have been on before, but not as much as others have.

Just a short list...

Amy Lee
Ben Kowalewicz

More seriously...

Frankie Boyle
Hugh Dennis
Stephen Fry
Jonathan Ross
David Tennant
Christopher Eccleston
Jeremy Clarkson
James May
Bob Geldof
Craig Charles
Dave Benson Phillips
Vic Reeves

Some nice choices there.

I am not sure Bob Geldof would be a DC guest. Also there is at least one doctor in DC, we don't need any more ;).

EDIT: How about Jennifer Saunders, Dawn French, Lenny Henry or even Jack Dee?

Stephen Fry has graced DC with his presence, way back in 2000 iirc. Jack Dee would be fantastic- if a little miserable.
