Press Previous on the same link - Haunted House. It's the same game, that's what my version was called in about 1974.

Was it this? I loved that as a kid.
In my memory it's called Ghost Castle. In fact the next game on that site - http://www.boardgamegeek.com/image/44827/which-witch

There's two of them?
Ah, Ghost Castle looks much more like the one I had. I guess they made a second/better version of it or something? Either way it was awesomefun.

Just had my first ever game of Settlers of Catan. I have to agree it's an excellent game. Definitely up there with Carcassonne.

Has anyone got any confirmation on the reported Scrabble rule change of proper nouns being allowed? If it happens I can't imagine what all the competitive scrabblers would do/say/blow up in protest.

It's just a variant that was released last year, not for use in proper tournaments. Otherwise everyone would be naming their dogs 'qivvyao' and 'cuxporg'.

I've played a few "geeky" board games recently, including Settlers of Catan. I've only played it twice but I don't actually think Settlers of Catan is that good. I mean, I'm sure there's lots of skill and everything, but I just don't think it's that fun. Having played a few other games as well, it's quite a generic "collect wood, stone, clay and wheat and buy things that give you victory points" type of game. There seem to be a lot of them about, and I don't necessarily think Settlers of Catan is one of the better ones.

I've been playing The Resistance quite a lot recently, and despite its simplicity (or because of it), I think it's really good. Also Medici is good, and Abyss, Wits and Wagers, and Camel Up.

I still don't really see the appeal of Settlers of Catan.

I played a game of Star Wars Risk recently.
Capturing Tatooine, doesn't have the same enjoyment as capturing Irkutsk, for me

Settlers is great, but moved in to a few other ones recently:
Carcasson, Puerto Rico (both like Catan to a certain extent)
Dead of Winter (cooperative Zombie board game)
Pandemic (another cooperative game)

I quite like Dead of Winter and Pandemic as well actually. Interestingly the sequel to Pandemic is the number one game on BoardGameGeek. I've never played it though.

I had another game of Settlers of Catan yesterday, and actually I was probably a bit harsh on it. It is quite enjoyable. It's still a resource management game though, but I think it's better than most because it's not overly complex and boring like a lot of them.

I've had to bump this as I cannot start topics.
The world Scrabble Championship is in Nottingham this year ( was originally meant to be Doha )
It is from the 22nd to the 27th of August and anyone can enter it is only £100 to enter.
Could be tempted if I can find a cheap hostel/guesthouse.
Details can be found on the Mind Sport Academy Website.
Feel free to start a thread

Off to the Scrabble World Championship in Nottingham.
Needless to say it is an open event.

Had a thoroughly good time at the World Scrabble Championships.
I came 66th (out of 77).
Couldn't believe the standard of Scrabble from all the kids from Pakistan, their word knowledge was phenomenal, probably because Scrabble is on the National Curriculum in Pakistan.
My only claim to fame was I beat the woman who beat Nigel Richards, the No1 seed and I think the World champion elect.

The world championship is an open event and it only gets 77 participants?

There were several reasons why that was the case.
It was switched to Nottingham from Qatar at short notice meaning a lot of players, particularly from Africa and Asia could not obtain visas also the BMSC is taking place this weekend and many people had already booked.
It would have been much less if the dozen or so World Youth Scrabble participants from Pakistan hadn't stayed for the main event.
Also not ONE player the UK entered the youth event.
Go figure

Bumped this to create (hopefully) some debate.
Would you be more inclined to play Scrabble more if the consonants and vowels were in seperating bags ?

I quite like this idea tbh. Sort of a mish mash of scrabble and countdown. Would probably prefer them to alter the letters distribution too.

I've been thinking about this variant a lot more .
You could play thirty second moves after you picked up your last tile.

Why shouldn't he? Is it because you are a silly <13 year old child trolling Apterous, The Countdown Wiki, and here? The account "Saul Rothwell" created on Apterous.org (the day after someone by that name appeared on Countdown and lost to Elliott Mellor by over 100 points) had been deactivated less than 24 hours after it was made. This is likely because it was you. You have made so many sockpuppet accounts on wiki.apterous.org, examples go as "Zarte, Martin, Rachel, Dinos Sfyris, Mark Deeks". You have spread so many false rumours around such as how Elliott Mellor was going to break the Countdown record again on his last heat game (Monday 27th May) and that one of Countdown's first ever players (Jeff Francis) was set to reappear on Friday 17th May. Well Ashton, none of these rumours were true, Elliott did not score 154 on Monday 27 May and Jeff Francis did not appear on Friday 17th May.

Some of the threads that you have created on here are absolutely pathetic. You ask up to 4 Random adult Countdowners to go to your house on 6th September for your apparent "birthday". What on earth was the point of "Countdown in Brinsworth"? It is obviously a scam and a waste of everybody's
time.

I have also seen that you have commented on "Countdown In Milton Keynes" that you want to play through Skype. What kind of person does that? You either pay to attend the event or don't go at all.

I'd like it if you could stop spamming and vandalising the Wiki, stop creating Sockpuppet accounts on both Apterous and the wiki, and that you no longer post anything that is either irrelevant or stupid on here.
Countdown in Brinsworth has been rethought and it will be held on 6th Sep

Anybody ever played starfarers of catan? It's like settlers only with aliens and spaceships and so forth. It's getting re-released in the autumn so worth picking up for any settlers fans. :-)

Well, I haven't seen THIS thread before...

Choices choices. So many excellent games that have had no mention yet.
I voted for "other - please specify", so you did ask for this. ;)
If I had to pick just one, ooh... that's hard, but maybe "Absolute Balderdash" would shade it?

Other contenders (in decreasing order of preference):
30 Seconds
Decrypto
Spot the Intro
Mastermind
Scattergories
A "pass the bomb" game (name escapes me)
Mad Gab
Cluedo
Scrabble
and many others...

I'm probably forgetting something excellent.
But what is odd about this thread is how few board games have been mentioned. And, given the penchant of some Countdowners for gratuitous filth, it is very strange that I'm the first person to mention the notorious "Cards against Humanity". (Beat you to it, Steadman!)

Not a board game, otherwise I'd have mentioned Exploding Kittens too.
