Oy you knobber! I got that one first. Will let your puzzle stay though as I don't have one in mind right now.

Aside: Just remembered this show. Apparantly it's still running, which i didn't know, but just wondering if you guys in the UK were ever subjected to this kind of punishment? I can't find any videos of it's Aonghus McAnally hosted hey day, but those of you who like eurovision may recognise current host Linda Martin from when she won (with a song written by twice winner Johnny Logan if i'm correct).

If we were let loose in the countdown studio with a load of instruments we could have a savage game of this. There's already a board and everything like! We could call it Boogiedown!

Right, then the connection must be maid, cos the other one's Livin' Lovin' Maid (Led Zep).

Ok: what's the connection between these?
"Tank fly boss walk jam nitty gritty
You're listening to the boy from the big bad city"

"I think I might be happy if I wasn't out with them
And they're happy it's a lovely place to be"

"I have to celebrate you baby"

Correct with my link!

And these are too easy - all lyrics from Norman Cook projects!

Q. What is the connection between these songs?

"If I lay here, if I just lay here, would you lie with me, and just forget the world?" (2006)

"You treat me just like another stranger, well it's nice to meet you sir, I guess I'll go, I best be on my way out." (2009)

"It's hard to say that I'd rather stay awake when I'm asleep, 'cos everything is never as it seems." (2010)

Are they songs that have been covered by American Idol/X Factor winners?

I don't think so. At least, that's not the connection I have in mind.

Lesley, although the first part of your post is indeed from Beats International's Dub Be Good to Me, those 'tank fly' lyrics are actually lifted from Johnny Dynell's 1983 hit 'Jam Hot'. Sorry, haven't been on the board for a while, but I've been busy. Not to mention having a good 26th birthday today.

In regards to Ryan's question, maybe it's something to do with Radio 1's Big Weekend? Snow Patrol and Paramore performed at the Big Weekend, and Cheryl performed a cover of Fireflies by Owl City.

Radio 1's big weekend was after the time I wrote that question. And I had completely forgotten about this topic! It was a bit of an obscure connection and probably not in the spirit of this thread. The three songs are from albums with 'Eyes' in the title:

Snow Patrol - Chasing cars from 'Eyes Open'
Paramore - Ignorance from 'Brand New Eyes'
Owl City - Fireflies from 'Ocean Eyes'

Find the connection:

"I love the crowd, I hate the crowd. I constantly constipate the crowd."
"Whirlwind of praise from below to above / Take flight in the sky got wings like a dove."
"Took her for a drink on Tuesday / we were making love by Wednesday."
"He left no time to regret / Kept his dick wet / With his same old safe bet"
"Suckin' on my titties like you wanted me, Callin me all the time like Blondie"
"Holly came from Miami F.L.A. / hitch-hiked her way across the U.S.A."

You ought to recognise some. You won't others, so feel free to Google to find out songs/artists. Looking for the connection.

I am guessing that all the artistes have a Jewish connection (2,3 4 and 6 are, at least)
Wot no Beastie Boys Lyrics.

Yup, nice one! And I did mean to do Beastie Boys but then forgot, oops.

The two you missed out (above) are Gonzales and Peaches respectively, two awesome artists on Kitty-Yo.

Phil Makepeace first cracked that it was a BT advert (and described the advert), although he said it featured ET, and I told him that it certainly didn't feature ET.

Leslie Hines then suggested that the band was called Stratosphere, and I said I was pretty certain it wasn't that.

Just to prove how right I was, here is the advert, featuring ET, and a band called Stratosfear.... :?

What a thread.

I'm relying on my memory somewhat, but I'm fairly sure they're accurate. I mean, the "headed" might've been "heading" or something like that, but nothing important.
Turns out it was "aiming". I would have got it straight away.

What year is it from?

Definitely a good candidate for a lyric where changing 'heart' to 'arse' works a treat.

This game amuses me endlessly.
