Impressive. FTR things like this make me less tempted to fix that bug, rather than more.

Oh, and before you get too impressed, I did go for 180-second rounds but now I've done that I'll try and take him with proper length rounds.

The bots also get a bonus for long rounds so there's nothing dishonest in doing that, if you have the patience to bother.

OK, but I was under the impression (from a discussion a couple of weeks or so ago) that the bonus didn't apply to Rex because he's supposed to be infallible anyway, which is why I started going for the long rounds. The first time I ever tried to beat him at hyper numbers I naively thought he might struggle with shorter rounds so went for 5 seconds. I was actually still quite pleased with the result since I got 5 out of 9 (I can mention that I was pleased with myself because this is the thread of brag).

Oh, I see. Yeah, I meant the bug of beating the max rather than beating Rex, but fixing one would probably fix the other one anyway.

Max goatdown 9. Was pretty happy with the gamble I took on the conundrum, as I was considering a couple of things it could be. What is the reason for this format being relatively unplayed?

Nice game. Normal-speed Goatdown is generally not much played, and in such an explosive format (where a first round lead of 18-0 is not unusual), 9 rounds is probably too much volatility for most players good enough to be posting max games. But not you, sir, evidently!

How long do you get to buzz in for the conundrum and still get the full points?

Edit - Oh I see.

Whilst nowhere near a max, from my position, it was nice to beat an Octochamp and quarter finalist in the current series. For all I know, Ryan may even be the series champ.

http://apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=155389

p.s. With it being a Friday night I've also been drinking for several hours. More often than not, I find that this adversely affects my ability to see words etc. Even more reason to celebrate a win without the need for a conundrum.

What is it about Friday nights, getting pissed and playing Ryan Taylor?

I don't know but it seems to work for me. This is probably my best ever letters game (1 short of max and the miss was to Ryan's 9 in round 1):

As somebody who is normally middle of the road, I would really appreciate your votes in this weeks "Game of the Week".

I learnt the word MOPOKE some months ago and checked it up as it sounded great. Beside it it said it was another term for MOREPORK. I remembered it as I visualised a Geordie saying MOPOKE and it sounding like MOREPORK (well in my head anyway). Couldn't believe it when it came out.

One of my sweetest max games as it has some nice words in. Interestingly the only other time I've declared SHAADIS it was a max game too.

I've been playing 'attack'-style games of different lengths the past few days and was rather chuffed to get back-to-back a Perfect Numbers short attack and a Perfect letters short attack.

Later attempts at 'Long attacks' (1, 2, 3) met with limited success. :|

After all these near misses, I've finally got 200 on bullet numbers attack!

This means that I'm now as good as Richard Brittain so I can become an octochamp with 820 points, win a series but then lose in the first round of the champion of champions, declaring amongst others SALONEEN and GANDISEEG along the way.

Max gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaame!!!!!

Scott pleaded me not to be stupid and go 1 large for the last numbers. However it seems fortune favours the brave by putting a 10 in the 6 small selection :)

However the numbers gods weren't so merciful on this close call immediately after :(

First ever back to back max games:

Max number 1: Yay
Max number 2: Yayer

Can I do another one before the end of the day? Nobody has ever done 3 in a day before. Watch this space...

EDIT: YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! After 48 attempts of trying and many 14 maxes and screaming and banging on tables, here it is (15 minutes before I had to go out clubbing): Get in!.

Just had a few cracking games with Chris starting with this epic Goatblitz http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=191881
Started off with a pencil-worthy 9 and managed to beat Chris to the first conundrum. 36 points ahead after round 6 I was happy as a clam :D However he clawed back the 2nd conundrum and at round 14 I knew he needed to pull out a 9 and the conundrum and I had that sinking feeling that he would. Alas he did :(

This was followed by a very evenly-matched speedgoat which again went down to a crucial conundrum which Chris again solved :x http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=191887

However I finally came unstuck in this game http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=191890
Some very tricky Darrens evaded us both including BURGEON, MAZDOOR and DULCAMARA. 20 ahead before the last numbers I did my stoopid tactic of picking 6 small (I always think if I switch loyalty to 1 large at this point I'll fall flat on my arse) Luckily it paid off and I finally got my Chris on a stick :)

Cheers for the games pal

Perfect Touch Numbers attack, only the second one on record (albeit out of only 42 games) and the second perfect 197, the 200 remains elusive.

It's got the picks the wrong way round. Chris picked round 14. I'dve been extremely lucky for Chris to goatpick WESTBOUND in round 1 and not see it.

So close to a max game, denied by the conundrum:

http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=193093

since I got this before it was revealed, I consider it a pseudo-max game (or something).

The very next game:

http://www.apterous.org/viewgame.php?game=193097

Don't think I'll ever be so close to successive max games.

Aw bless you Kirk, how can I respond to such kindness? I agree with Corby on kismet (destiny) though...I knew it from Arabic but was also aware it's widely used in English. I know it's appeared on Countdown a good few times. Still, always nice to impress you.
