Apterous Winter Closed Round 1

Post by Andrew Feist »

Basically, start here: http://sites.google.com/site/apterouswi ... tournament then click on things on the left side -- the names of the tournaments themselves contain details about how the tournaments work, and week 1 matches has, well, the week 1 matches.

Please post your results here, ideally with links to the games themselves.

(EDIT: Oh right: to set up your games, you should either PM your opponent here or send him/her an Aptomail. I'll get all the Speed games up soon, so you can get scheduling ahead if needed.)

That's a new facility to me - Aptomail. Missed the announcement of that one. Looks useful.

Main event:

Marcus Hares - 1 - 2 - Eoin Monaghan

Eoin Monaghan - 97 - 102 - Marcus Hares
Eoin Monaghan - 101 - 77 - Marcus Hares
Eoin Monaghan - 105 - 95 - Marcus Hares

Three very close games here, the first was well deserved by Marcus and the second was just as even, which I managed to scrape through. The third was the closest and best of the three with me just winning on the crucial conundrum.

Always a pleasure to play Marcus, thanks for the games! :)

Ryan Taylor 2 - 0 Scott Gillies

Ryan Taylor 98 - 73 Scott Gillies

Ryan Taylor 94 - 90 Scott Gillies

I didn't deserve a 2-0 win here, it should have gone 1-1 really and into a decider but as Scott said "shit happens".

DOD versus some dude

I played Ollie Garner too but it seems we had a week off so hopefully Feisty can confirm if this in fact a real match. If we played a real match out of order I don't mind carrying the loss, was outplayed so fair's fair.

I read it as Oliver Garner vs David O'Donnell, James Robinson off instead of Oliver Garner, David O'Donnell, James Robinson off. My bad

I've tried aptomailing both of my first week's opponents. First time I've tried using aptomail. How do we see replies? I know that one of my opponents has been logged on to apterous a few times since I aptomailed him. Indeed, he was logged in when I was playing earlier today, but had logged out before I'd finished the game I was involoved in.

I missed a game during the summer tournament due to my forum PM never being read, and hope something similar will not happen again.

It's just a web-based front to an e-mail address, Howard - so whatever you send just gets sent to the e-mail address they have registered on apterous, whilst remaining secure as you don't get to see the e-mail address. So them receiving it depends on them checking their e-mail, and has nothing to do with the apterous website itself. The e-mail they receive is addressed as from your registered e-mail address so that they can reply via regular e-mail.

Junior Mint result: Adam Gillard 2-0 Ben Cooke

Adam Gillard 88 - 76 Ben Cooke
A close game where the lead changed hands and we each got a pencil (CLASH for Ben; OREAD for me). Won on crucial.

Ben Cooke 93 - 99 Adam Gillard
Ben pulled ahead with DURIANS, but I weaselled my way back in and WAGGLED to win on a crucial again.

Two closely-fought games; thanks Ben.
