Looks like it's down.

Anyone know if Craig and I were still winning the duel when it went down? I got up this morning and eagerly F5ed to see and it's gone and broked.

I checked when Ryan posted and it was fine so I thought it was an elaborate likes-based joke, but yeah it's down now.

Yes, at last check. You two on 180, me on 165. Very impressive by the way, very.

My sympathies.

Don't know which is worse. Apterous being down, or F1 being on TV.

On second thoughts, lack of Apterous is marginally worse. In the case of F1 and TV there are always other more interesting stations you can switch to. :D

Well I've got the NZ v England rugby to keep me going in the interim, could be worse. SHame we're going to lose though.

It's not a good time to let Charlie know (around 4am where he is - may even be 3am, as I'm not sure when DST finishes in the States). If I find it's not back up in a few hours, I'll text Charlie (unless someone else does).

He might still be up, or could deal with it when he gets up, no harm in texting now I wouldn't have thought.

Awesome! It would seem Apterous being down most of the weekend coincided with me walking in the North York Moors for the weekend so I haven't suffered any withdrawal symptoms.

That's because it's not giving a 404 error, it's a database issue, as described by the sentence "Could not establish database connection...". That website just checks to see if anything is returned.

The wiki was up at the end of last week, when both apterous and the cdb were down due to being unplugged for cleaning. The wiki's on a different machine.

I think if you're still left logged in then you can load the applet, albeit with an error message at the top. I stupidly logged out half an hour ago and so am now left out in the cold.

Thanks for reposting Dan, glad some people are picking up.

However, to explain further - the 'down for everyone or just me' site simply tests whether there is a response from the server.

If the result is 'yes it's down' this means the server isn't responding - in real terms as far as apterous is concerned this means something wrong with Charlie's PC at Apterous Towers, usually in the power department, mum's accidentally turned it off to vacuum or whatever. This manifests itself on our screens with a "could not connect to server" error message branded in your own browser's style.

At the moment though, the computer/server itself is working fine - which is why you don't get a "can't access server" error, and why downforeveryoneorjustme reports that the site is fine. The problem is a SOFTWARE problem on Charlie's PC and not the hardware - it is suffering from a database connection error which means the website is down, not the whole server.

Hope that helps a little. Helps explain I mean, obviously doesn't help y'all get on to apterous :)
