Countdown in Edinburgh 2 - Sat 2nd November

Post by Mike Brown »

UPDATED INFO:

Bookings are now being taken for the second Countdown in Edinburgh (CoEdi2) on Saturday November 2rd.

Jointly organised by Nita Marr and friends from the legendary Edinburgh Countdown Club and Rich Priest and myself from the C4C community, it will be an Edinburgh-style tournament (that's like Lincoln, except that points determine seedings and results rather than both wins and points) at the home of the ECC in the south of the city (to be more exact, the Braid Bowling Club, 58 Cluny Gardens, Edinburgh EH10 6BR).

After last year's home win, the English will be looking for a better result across the border, but I'm sure those on home ground will be hoping otherwise!

The price remains the same as last time, which is £10 including a buffet lunch, and payments can be made via PayPal to mike@mjbrown.demon.co.uk (don't forget to specify a personal payment to avoid any charges being levied). Those living locally can pay Nita directly if they prefer.

Advance rail tickets are now available from the usual online emporia.

Hope to see you there!

PROVISIONAL TIMETABLE:

11.00 Doors open
11.45 Welcome / Round 1 Draw announced.
12.00 Round 1
13.20 Lunch
14.05 Round 2
15.25 Break
15.40 Round 3
17.00 Break
17.20 Grand Final (featuring new 15-round format)
17.45 Prizegiving
18.00 End / down the pub!

I'm doing something the night before so it's probably a bit far to travel up in the morning. Unless someone's flying and wants to pick me up on the way?

Long shot, but is anyone driving to this from the southern half of England? I will pay you with glorious and witty conversation (or, if that fails, stemming/scrambles. And maybe a bit of petrol money).

You certainly can, Jonathan. From memory, the venue can only hold about 36 max, but we're nowhere there that at present, so you should be fine. A week before the date would be nice, though. :)

Same for me to be honest. The train fares from Manchester make it expensive, then there's the hotel accomodation.

Just want to check train arrival times with everyone- I'm getting in at 11:10 on the Saturday morning.

...Having just discovered that the train from Lincoln to Retford has been replaced with a bus, meaning I have to leave the house at 5:45 on Saturday. Awesome.

7pm on Friday night, 'fresh' from a 9 1/2 hour Megabus journey. Who else is arriving on the Friday night? Please keep me company, I don't wanna be third-wheeling the Robinson-McCullagh bromance all night.

It'll be hard for an all-night bromance, since my train doesn't arrive at Waverley until 21:11, so I'll be a late arrival I'm afraid.................. :(

Really wish I could've made it up there, but alas, not this year.

Make sure someone a) runs over someone's foot and b) collapses into a giggling fit, halting proceedings as everyone stares around in bemusement for me.

Sure thing :-) Hopefully they've built a bit more of Waverley station since last year so it's a bit easier to find each other this time. :-)
