Sorry to say, I won't actually be there. Korfball duties have taken precedence! If you happen to go to the right pub in the evening however, then I might catch you then :)

Well I'm 10 miles away from Edinburgh in a hotel for 4 nights. Sadly I don't have my own vehicle and have to work at the darts from 545pm on Saturday so I won't be able to say hi or play. Hope you all have fun!

Once again, many thanks to Mike, Richard, Nita and everyone at the Edinburgh Countdown Club for this event. It just remains for me to offload a pile of numbers from my laptop...

Take Melanie's excellent, undefeated, performance out of the table... and those results are pretty stark reading for the non-apterite Edinburgh club members.

I was a bit confused by the shortage of wins all round. But since there are wins, draws and losses, could these also be incorporated into the table? It's not really complete otherwise.

I can't help but think that the Edinburgh club have been hoist by their own petard. 5 wins and 1 draw for Melanie Beaumont, but their own rules dictate that wins are worthless.

I believe Melanie and Ryan did play a tiebreak which Melanie won, so at any other event it would have been six wins.

It really was brilliant, very well-run and the atmosphere was lovely. Thanks to Mike and Richard (and Graeme!) for making it happen, and to all the c4cers who made the long (and rather arduous in some cases) journey up here, was great to see you all. Long may CoEdi continue!

And yep, Melanie really is that good.

Yes, thanks to everyone for coming and making it special. Great pub afterwards too. Even the fisherman with his inflatable catch (and his photo of his record-breaking tadpole fish) was great. Hope to see everyone next year!

For the purposes of a day's fun it actually has its upsides - it means that you're not already doomed to a mediocre result if you happen to lose your first two games (which doesn't necessarily mean you played badly). For the purposes of a competitive tournament, clearly it is very flawed, but nobody there was really treating it like one anyway. Even Melanie didn't (genuinely) care about how it ended up. Honestly I'm entirely happy not to rock the boat on this one, for this event it just seems to work.

The history that this scoring system carries in the context of the Edinburgh Countdown Club outweighs the frankly small gains in how deserved most people's positions are. Before we even come to Innis's point, let's not act like your performance over six 9-rounders is a great way of doing things either.

You make it sound like this is a great tradition passed down from generation to generation, as opposed to something someone came up with once and that just stuck because nobody cared enough to bring it up.

Obviously you'd get a more accurate picture if you played 900 15-rounders, but there's time constraints.

nobody cared enough to bring it up.
It got brought up in 2012. It quickly got brought down again.

I've changed my mind. I like the idea that Countdown has a local tournament for local people.
Whenever I get round to running a Westcountry event I'm going to come up with something even freakier.
