COOT '08 R2 - Priest vs Reams

Post by Charlie Reams »

Recap for the first game of the second round of COOT 2008, played Sunday 29th June 2008.

C1: Challenger Rich Priest, who beat Howard Somerset in impressive fashion in the first round.
C2: Challenger Charlie Reams, who inexplicably received a bye into the second round, presumably due to his artificially self-inflated rating. The cheating git.
DC: Jon O'Neill.
OT: Other words or solutions.

I thought the conundrum looked familiar, and spent most of the 15 seconds trying to remember the answer rather than solving it. I was at least vindicated. Good game, not unhappy to have lost to an excellent player in a game with some difficult maximums. Thanks to Jono for hosting.

Good game, well done Richard. This is a minor upset, because some of us were expecting big things from Charles Reams following his impressive victory in last year's COOT Plate, and thus had him down as slight favourite for this match. Nonetheless, he now has the opportunity to retain his Plate title, although such a task will no doubt be extremely difficult given that the loser of the Howe-Corby match, Ben Pugh and many other strong contenders will be contesting that title.

Yeah I think I too was expecting a bit more from Charlie, but to be fair he's got more important things to worry about at the moment, like graduation!

Ben Pugh and the loser of the Corby-Howe match will be hot favourites for the Plate for me, as things stand anyway...

I haven't played for about 2 months, but in honesty missing OBLIGATE is about the only thing that I can blame on rustiness. I'll try to warm up a bit for the plate.

I haven't played for about 4 years

(For the record, that last numbers round is possible, so final max score of 121 I believe)
