I thought it might be a nice idea to put a couple of your own games here that you thought merited a mention - whether a classic or just a fun game. All my games were great (thanks mainly to my opponents) but I realise how important getting conundrums instantly are against the pros of this world. I managed to lose 3 games all on crucial conundrums this year which was slightly disappointing for me. Anyway, here goes with my top game:

And so there it was - I had been defeated by Mark Tournoff for my third time despite, yet again, it being very close and for the second time him coming from behind to beat me on the conundrum. Between us all, all the maximums were obtained but I just hoped the 6 small in round 8 proved nicer as I might have been able to secure victory before the conundrum. Nevertheless an entertaining game.

Same here. I think my game with Conor though, might fall under 2 possible achievements (CT: 69 v JB: 15):

1) Conor got a winning margin of 54 points - not sure if this is the highest.
2) I got a low score of 15 (finally getting off the mark after round 7 ) - not sure if this is the lowest.

It didn't for me .

I think if there was a 2 in the selection (instead of the 5) so the sum was (25 - 2) x 9, then I might've got it, because I remember posting about why 2 contestants didn't see the sum (75 + 1) x 9 = 684 on a numbers game (21/01/08).

Going by my game, Jono went up to 5075 so I am probably guessing he started of by saying something like 75 x 100 = 7500.

I did buy it as I thought it might help but by that stage I had already decided to apply to go on the show and had sought advice from those on the mailing list. A lot of the stuff that Stuart's book covers was covered, and in more detail, from chatting online with other Countdowners and visiting Jerry Humphries' website. My 'miaow' comment was a little tongue in cheek since I believe Jono has a valid point. However, since Stuart plans to use the money for charitable purposes I see it as a bit of a stretch to accuse him of profiteering.

A surprising start, I was very fortunate to catch Mark T cold - and having read half of 'Crucial' so far I doubt he'd prepared for COLIN in the same manner! Only UNHOOKS and WAZIRS(?) missed on the letters though, and with DICTATE they were all darrens. Round 7 was interesting : Mark declared 6 and I got my tactics badly wrong in doing the same - but it didn't prove costly. Zaires is capitalised unfortunately.

After that start, the last thing I wanted was a defeat to Scott "EXITLESS/DONKING" Kenyon...

Oh dear! A fortunate win with a pitiful 3 maxes. I had moderati in the opener but failed to rearrange it for MEDIATOR(or even see a 7?!), and wasn't close to ALIENATES. The game swung hugely on HALATION - which Scott openly admitted to having made up as it "sounds like a word", and "you can have INhalation, so why not halation?" - perfectly logical, except it's to do with the blurring of illuminated images. Having got stuck repeatedly on -KEEPER (which isn't there) on the conundrum, and having broken it down into WORK and POKER, I had a desperate guess at POKERWORK over WORKPOKER - which proved a smart move. Poor Scott - he finally succeeds with a made-up word, only to lose to a conundrum which sums up his job (I'm unsure if that's the actual meaning).

Kirk was less than a second behind me on the conundrum as well - so it couldn't have been closer. Underlie and admitted were disappointing misses for both sides - and I've never heard of cenacle.

I think it's also a cricketing term, when the batsman tries to accumulate a score with small shots worth only one or two runs each.

Well it took a while, but here are the two defeats that put me back in my place. Firstly though, in response to previous comments:

Kirk - Pretty sure I saw UNDERLIE, but in a moment of stupidity decided it wasn't a word. There was a point soon after where I thought "Hang on, I don't have a 7...".

Mike & Ben - The "nerdled" I was risking was in the cricket sense - although I couldn't remember that at the time, I was confident I hadn't made it up. Bit surprised it wasn't in, but then there's still no respotted...

Julian: I trust you are not considering me as a "beatable" player!

Dinos: I do have the notes from the "raping" Kirk gave you, and am happy to type it up if requested.

Well, when you play an all-time great, the last thing you want is a poor start. The conundrum made the score seem remotely respectable, but the gulf in talent was clear. That said, Chris missed a few words himself - so it could've been even worse.

This was my closest called game of the day. After spotting VIADUCTS, I was able to keep my lead right up until the second numbers game, where I picked 4 large (even though throughout the day I had been crap at 4 large ) and lost the lead, therefore going to a crucial conundrum. The conundrum was close called as we both smacked down at the same time but it was decided that Dinos was first and got SUFFOCATE for the win.
