CoNot IV results

Post by Ben Wilson »

...And another Countdown in Nottingham has come to an end, and the perpetual trophy has a brand new name on it (to, um, add to the other three names that are technically brand new as they weren't on there this time two weeks ago... Anyway...)

Two spot prizes were given out during the day- first was for the player with the highest losing score during the 'Ascending Phase' (round 1 to everyone who isn't me)- that was GRAEME COLE with 63 points to Jack Worsley's 76. Graeme would later go on to get the highest overall score of the day in the Descending Phase (okay, okay, Round 2) with a score of 91 points to James Robinson's 81 (possibly a record aggregate for 9-round co-events).

The other spot prize was for the player with the best record during the Descending phase. Only one player won all four of their games- and that was HEATHER STYLES.

Graeme and Heather also picked up Conundrum God badges for spotting 6 out of 8 available conundrums during the day- as did JEN STEADMAN and the two finalists (more on them in a bit).

The overachiever award went to co-event debutant ZUBAIR PATEL, for finishing 7 places ahead of his projected finish.

3rd place- and free entry into CoNot V- went to ZARTE SIEMPRE, with 6 wins and a whopping 516 points. Zarte wasn't beaten on any letters or numbers round all day, and finished with the highest points aggregate of anyone.

The runner-up- also getting free entry into CoNot V- was DYLAN TAYLOR, who lost a nail-biting final after having finished the preliminary rounds in first place, with 7 wins and 502 points, one solitary point ahead of the champion...

JACK WORSLEY, who takes his seventh co-event title, the CoNot shield and, of course, free entry into CoNot V!

Many thanks to all for attending, hope the Nando's was cheeky and the afterparty drunken and chaotic. :)

Here are the full results from the day:

Thanks for organising, Ben. Also thanks to Jill for putting on the refreshments, and to Heather and Jen for sorting out all the difficult logistics involving taxis and such, which made the day about 100% easier for everyone else.

Excellent event. Well organised as usual and I enjoyed the new five-to-a-table format. It's puts a bit more pressure on the host, and I think sometimes there was a bit of confusion about who to ask for their words first etc. but I'm sure we can iron out a standard method.

Also, I enjoyed scoring a goal past Dylan Taylor as he was so proud of his goalkeeping record. But it was a shame I had to go early and missed the "cheeky Nando's", but I couldn't stay on Saturday night - that's what happens when you organise a CO event on the same weekend as a Formula One GP!!!

Ben,thanks for the opportunity to take part in a Co Event for the first time. Really enjoyable day, meeting many people for the first time and winning a spot prize along the way was an unexpected bonus ! Congrats to you Jack for winning another title.
