Enjoy the show.

Round 1: R S M E I U S A A

Matthew: SAMURAI (7)
Tom: SURMISE (7)
DC: SAMURAIS (8)
Score: 7–7 (max 8)

Matthew decides not to stick the extra S, but I think just about everyone in the crowd (me included) didn't realised that SAMURAIS was an alternative plural.

Round 2: R R N V E E E I R

Matthew: VENEER (6)
Tom: NERVIER (7)
DC: REVERIE (7) VENERER (7) VERNIER (7)
Score: 7–14 (max 15)

Tom may have the NERVIER word, but not the NERVIER delivery, as he takes the first lead.

Round 3: 25, 50, 75, 6, 9, 1. Target: 551.

Matthew: 551. (9 x 50) + 25 + 75 + 1 (10)
Tom: 551. (9 x 50) + 25 + 75 + 1 (10)
Score: 17–24 (max 25)

Round 4: N Y N C U A I H L

Matthew: CANNILY (7)
Tom: CANNILY (7)
DC: UNCHAIN (7)
Score: 24–31 (max 32)

Round 5: N T L U O O S I N

Matthew: SOLUTION (8)
Tom: SOLUTION (8)
Score: 32–39 (max 40)

3 perfect rounds in a row.

Round 6: 3, 1, 7, 7, 2, 9. Target: 187.

Matthew: 187. (2 x 9 x (7 + 3)) + 7 (10)
Tom: 187. (9 x 7 x 3) - 2 (10)
Score: 42–49 (max 50)

Not much of a tricky 6 small, as we head to the first conundrum.

Round 7: O K E Y P A R T Y

Matthew buzzes on 6 seconds to say KARYOTYPE which is correct.
Score: 52–49 (max 60)

A superb spot by Matthew who takes the lead at halfway.

Round 8: X R T S O A A Z S

Matthew: ROASTS (6)
Tom: AORTAS (6)
DC: ASSART (6) ASSORT (6) SASTRA (6) STORAX (6)
Score: 58–55 (max 66)

Round 9: F S D O O O E L A

Matthew: SEAFOOD (7)
Tom: SEAFOOD (7)
Score: 65–62 (max 73)

Nothing much in these 2 rounds.....

Round 10: 9, 7, 1, 10, 2, 4. Target: 967.

Matthew: 967. (((9 x 10) - 2) x (7 + 4)) - 1 (10)
Tom: 967. (((9 x 10) - 2) x (7 + 4)) - 1 (10)
Score: 75–72 (max 83)

A superb spot by both players here. This game is getting tight still.

Round 11: D R L E A I R A T

Matthew: TRAILED (7)
Tom: ARTERIAL (8)
Score: 75–80 (max 91)

Another great spot by Tom, who retakes the lead at this late stage.

Round 12: T S P K I I I B O

Matthew: PITS (4)
Tom: SPOT (4)
DC: OBITS (5) POSIT (5) TIKIS (5) TIPIS (5) TOPIS (5)
Score: 79–84 (max 96)

What a final letters round to have. Both players can only find 4's, although there were a few 5's in the selection.....

Round 13: 25, 7, 3, 9, 1, 6. Target: 765.

Matthew: 763. (25 x 3 x (9 + 1)) + 7 + 6 (7)
Tom: 763. ((25 x (3 + 1)) + 9) x 7 (7)
Callum Todd: 765. (25 - 7 - 1) x 3 x (9 + 6) (10)
Score: 86–91 (max 106)

The one large comes up with a little stinker, which both players can only get to within 2 of.......

SO, IT'S CRUCIAL CONUNDRUM TIME!!!!

Round 14: N P A C Q U I A O

Matthew buzzes on 2 seconds to say AQUAPONIC which is correct.
Final Score: 96–91 (max 116)

And like a rocket, Matthew blasts his way to victory with another conundrum solve to win his first CO-event title in his first final :!: :!: :!:
