Re: Annie Humphries and Graham Hill

Uh-oh Martin! Could this mean she went out of remission and came back in again? There is nothing to suggest her absence was due to ill health, and (as has been said many times in this thread) it is none of our business. Can I suggest this thread is now "locked" (if such thing is possible ...

Re: Annie Humphries and Graham Hill

So, Annie is now eligible for the Series 76 finals! Good on the Countdown crew! Recent article about Annie http://www.echo-news.co.uk/news/14992938.Countdown_final_beckons_for_retired_teacher_Annie/ No further details really about her absence from the S75 finals (which is, of course, not really any...

Spoilers for Thursday 5th January 2017

Thought I'd set up the first one of the year! Interesting start for the current champion (Darren Godfrey) - in his 2 wins prior to today he has had just one max in 20 letters games, but a perfect 8 from 8 in his numbers games (including a couple of very good solves). Definitely someone to select &qu...

Re: Countdown Goody Bags through the ages.

Looks too skinny for a video - I would guess it is a computer game on something like a Spectrum or a Commodore 64, though an hour's trawl through google images hasn't come up with anything that matches :(

Re: Spoilers for Thusday August 25th 2016

Hi Martin, just wondering: Are you any relation to Jack or Josh ? Or, for that matter, Bill , John , Rachel or Tony ? PS Congrats for winning the series. :) Thanks Stewart, No, I am no relation to any of these (unless in a tenuous Danny Dyer to William the Conqueror type of way that I am unaware of...

Re: Spoilers for Friday 23rd December 2016 (Grand Final)

Thanks everyone :) All of the planets very much aligned for me in terms I was very fortunate to avoid some of the top Apterites that have either appeared in the last few series or are rumoured to appear over the next couple of series, and that all the players I faced in the finals (as I'm sure they ...

If anyone is wondering, there was no DC spot today as it was an anecdote from Carol Kirkwood talking about this incident https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vMk8KKWAq7c We were all sat in the audience saying to each other "surely they're not going to broadcast this", and alas, they didn't.......

Re: Who Will Win Series 75? -- Caution: Possible Spoilers

It's a real shame Annie couldn't make it but my view is that if you can't make the recording of your series final then it should just be tough bananas because it's not fair on contestants on the next series to accommodate you. It'd be better to invite her back for some kind of special. Maybe agains...

Re: Who Will Win Series 75? -- Caution: Possible Spoilers

What happens to the 8th seed of the next series? Presumably there'll only be seven slots, unless the top 8 are all octochamps and beat her total. Very harsh on the person that finishes 8th then, especially if it is a series with more episodes due to less horses. Perhaps it could be an opportunity t...

Not a quiz, but Doug Roberts (the pirate guy from CD a few weeks ago) was on Watchdog after he complained that a supermarket gift set of 3 jars of jam was more than double the price of buying the three jars of jam individually.

Re: The Future Of Recaps

Do we need recaps when we have the Apterous wiki? Seems a lot of work for little gain. Maybe instead more meat can go in the spoilers thread each day, so as well as people posting DC beaters and alt numbers as they do now, some irreverent commentary can be added afterwards? Spoilers threads tend to...

Maybe an "ask Greame" in there somewhere as can't be many who have won a show after blanking the first 3 letters games? It's not common, but it's happened a few times. 9 times in 9-rounders, 14 times in old 15-rounders, and up to the end of series 74, twice in new 15-rounders. Ned Pendlet...

A stellar line-up amongst the next few episodes – today’s challenger is Aidan Linge, so it will be an all-Apterous clash against 6-time champion Stephen Fuller. Re Pointless, I thought it was a great laugh, but the only change I would have made would have probably been to ditch the first 2 rounds and instead ask the same 6 (or so) questions for everyone to answer individually (quickly) on a bit of paper and then pass it to the person sat next to them to mar...
