I've played on something like that in an airport where you had to answer some general knowledge questions and then you played a letters/numbers round for points. I managed to play one letters and one numbers game before I got a couple of random questions on 70s pop music wrong and lost my money.

Another easy conundrum was the recent scramble of MICROWAVE which kept M-ICRO at the start, I read it as MICROWAVE and spent 10 seconds trying to work out what it could be.

6 vowels is the most in a nine letter word, of which there are quite a few, such as LEUKAEMIA, AUDITORIA, IDEOLOGUE, AUDACIOUS and best of all BOOBOISIE.

It wasn't that hard. The first thing you look for with that set of letters is a word ending in '-TION', which BATTALION almost ends in.

I've not spent a long time looking at them but WHITEWASH, ZYGOMATIC, PLOUGHMAN, YOUNGSTER and SOLILOQUY jumped out at me. I don't know what the X one is, it's not in the OED whatever it is.
