Re: Favourite discipline

I voted letters... I just find it more interesting. For example, if I miss a numbers game I never bother to check the solution cos it's massively unlikely that I'll learn something new. But I'm always keen to know what I missed, even if I do end up kicking myself lots.

Re: Versus Par

If this is like the par score on UKGameshows, then one criticism is that it punishes disallowed words harshly. I don't think it does. If a player has an eight disallowed and their opponent gets a seven, then the program puts their offering down as a six (offering nonwords should be punished, but no...

I have always maintained that the most accurate idea of how good a player is (after actually looking at every round and judging by brains) is maxima scored, where Paul Howe will be much higher I would've thought.

Re: Recap for 24 January 2003 - C of C XI Grand Final

With the possible exception of Allan saldanha. Based only on the Saldanha games I've seen on The Countdown Page, I would say Paul Howe on the form he showed was a much stronger player; Saldanha did miss plenty but was also very capable of streaks of brilliance. Of course, Saldanha also gets a load ...

Maybe they got someone new to shuffle them. When I think about how subjective to the shuffler the distribution is, that makes a lot of sense. When I saw the lady do it there was no particular method, no algorithm, just the unwritten rules in her head.
