Re: Spoilers for Tuesday June 3rd 2014 (S70 P94)

To me that 864 game suggested that the contestants possibly weren't even aware of the concept of adding before you multiply. This is the very first "trick" you learn. And it's not about going out of your way to learn it. Watch two episodes of Countdown and it's almost impossible not to en...

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday June 3rd 2014 (S70 P94)

It somehow both saddens and annoys me when people can't make 864 out of 100, 8 and the means to make another 8. 10 points just thrown away. You have to bear in mind that most people who don't watch Countdown regularly, or take playing it seriously, don't approach the numbers games in that way. For ...

Sometimes I get close to the target but then spend the rest of the time trying to get exact, and when the time is up I often forget how I got close. If I do that at home I would think it would be even more likely in the studio.

Well yesterday's numbers game on the desk calendar was the first one I haven't managed to solve, so this morning I had to have a look.
It was 4L with a 2 and a 3, and the target 580. Have to admit being a bit mad when I saw the answer! Almost made it to the end of May though!

Re: Spoilers For Monday February 17th 2014

Knowing about the top score for the series in advance of the conundrum didn't make any difference- and to be fair the challenger got it just after the bell - but I do agree it adds to the spectacle as a viewer to know these things. I think that 104 stood as a series record probably reflects a littl...

Last numbers also could have done:
50 x (9 - 8/4) - 25 + 10 but I bet Tony's done it now ;)

Good episode today, not just for the cake and things at the end, but also for Nick telling Brett before the conundrum that he had a chance of beating the highest score for the series so far. That kind of thing often passes unremarked.
Absolutely! Hope it carries on ;)

Re: Spoilers for Thursday February 13th 2014 (S70 P29)

This edition must be high on the 'games nobody deserves to lose' chart. Following on from the last week or so, it really hammered home to me how important the order of the draw is. No offensive to anyone of course ;) The order of the draw's important? Never noticed myself... Funny your name did com...

Re: Spoilers for Tuesday February 11th 2014 (S70 P27)

I like to think of that method to 349 as 100/2 times 7 (and then do 10-9 to make the one to subtract), but Rachel's way is more flexible. Yep, that was my way for that one, which could be done by just inserting the appropriate signs between the numbers in the order displayed. (100/2) x (5+2) + 9 - ...

Yup, strange Andy went for 3L the 2nd time having given away 10 pts the 1st time, but then Michael, having gained 20 pts from 3Ls, doesn't chose it himself in R14. Great game to watch :D

Re: Spoilers For Monday February 3rd 2014

Alt 982 = (25-4-2) x 50 + (8x4). I thought the challenger was going to do that but he added the 6 to the 25 instead. Andy started this way but added the 2 to the 50!

Think I spotted a fish in the remounts+g round for 8 - comes up a lot but rarely gets mentioned.
