Method for first nums for the 4 largers:
((100+6)*3*75+50)/25
Well in time as well, though really it's just standard 4l stuff.

Re: Best ways to improve your Countdowning skills...
I've always thought the largest simple improvement the average contestant could make is to learn how to do 'one large'. 1. If your solution starts with, say, 100x6=600 you can multiply any of the other numbers by 6 as well - (100-4)x6=576. 2. If your solution starts with, say, 100x3x2=600 you can m...

What exactly were the 'apterous lessons' meant to be? Surely you learn yourself by playing apterous? As a relative newby here if someone had offered me 'apterous lessons' for any amount of money I'd have declined rather firmly. That's not to say I think it's right for anyone to be conned out of mone...

Re: Apterites who have yet to appear on Countdown
I know I am always in awe watching the better contestants, and a few years ago when I didn't really watch Countdown I still watched Countdown for a few days in one series when I had happened to accidentally tune in when someone amazing was playing and I was in awe at how good they were. I even watch...

Re: C4C/apto/Countdown Dreams
620-itis is probably stemmed from his horrible numbers game miss with a target of 620. I had a weird dream last night...I dreamt that I'd gone to see a Countdown recording with a family friend, which for some reason was in the hall of my college. Just as I sat down, I received a text of Damian Eadie...

Re: C4C/apto/Countdown Dreams
I've been infected by the bug it seems... Only a short dream, but a very peculiar one nonetheless. It starts on apterous where I'm chatting away to people on there when out of the blue Giles Hutchings tells me he needs my help on something. It turns out he's got £1000000 to improve University Challe...

Have to say I was a little annoyed that Elliott Mack tried to play a dirty tactic earlier on, I'm pretty sure he didn't have an 8 there. However, his conundrum speed is really something, certainly not someone you'd want to face in crucial!

If I can be bothered either later or tomorrow, I'll do some analysis on average number of darrens, max etc per episode this series vs last and see if there is any noticeable difference. It certainly seems that way, a lot more duplicated letters in rounds for certain. Wonder why this is.

BUSTLINE r8
Interesting on the 679 solution it sounded as though 97*7 wasn't the full solution and he just stopped when Rachel said '679'. I think he possibly miscalculated the 97*7 and managed to just play it off when Rachel said 97*7=679.

For the 841 numbers game, I actually solved this in the audience and went to Rachel after they had finished recording with my solution. We went and found the numbers paper used for that round and I was allowed to write up my solution to it on that very paper with that very pen. She even wrote me a ...

It's not too amazing when you look at the method used. I eliminated getting close and adding/subtracting and just tried to get there by going above and dividing down. So I was aiming for 4205 with a 5 left over to divide it by, and spotted that method.

The 841 solution is ((100-10)*(50-3)-25)/5. There's been quite a lot of bad editing in terms of hands appearing lol.

Suzy's a really good spotter of words, certainly one of the most talented non-apterites there has been.

I have to confess I missed APTEROUS  Though to be fair it's a tough word to spot. If she keeps the same average every day and octos, she'll post a ver...

Re: So, who will be the founding member of Countdown's "1000 CLUB"?
It's not beyond the realms of possibility, but there are so many limiting factors that can affect your score. You're more likely to score a higher octototal if you say, film 3 games at the end of a series and then have a month's break before your next recordings than you are if you film 8 across 2 d...

Re: So, who will be the founding member of Countdown's "1000 CLUB"?
Just going to put my point of view across in here. While I don't doubt that 1000 is possible for a player to achieve in an octorun, indeed most octoruns have maxes of 1000+ available due to the new dictionary words, I still can't really envisage it happening on the show. The reasons for this are: 1)...
