I think you're right about the letters.

As for numbers, well, it's much harder to assess the difficulty of a solution. The WTP solver does it quite well. I think it's something Charlie's working on.

Before the person who quit the game can challenge their opponent again, they either have to resume or resign the game. Soon enough they'll end up with nobody to play against if they don't forfeit the games.

The breaks are a lot shorter in reality, about one minute, and usually the make-up people come to do some touching up. Apart from that, general chit-chat to eachother or a presenter if they're interested. There's not a lot of thumb-twiddling that I experienced or have seen.
