Re: Countdown in the news
It's possible that I misheard, but I thought it was the candidate's mistake rather than Rachel's for not specifically saying whether to add or subtract the 6. At this point in the numbers game her job is to write down what she is told - she ought not to be thinking for him/her * or working ahead as ...

Re: Countdown Scattergories III
Not mocking you, no, mocking the very common misuse of the word. As a mathematician I would expect you to take umbrage at it. I think you're misremembering who is who. Charlie is the CompSci PhD student, Junaid is the maths PhD student and I'm the statistics PhD student, so you probably want me or ...

Re: Risk(y words)
I seem to be mumbling on about something totally unrelated now so I'll shut up. No, that is roughly what I wanted to know. It does seem risky to use other than random  selections for auditions because anybody who knows what to expect will get an advantage. But I'm never likely to get there be...

Re: Countdown Scattergories III
Do any of you really list all Joseph's eight words for each round and then pick one? I have great difficulty finding more than a couple in some rounds, which makes my choices more than usually random. Or possibly less, Charlie? I'm not sure if you're mocking (or even aware of) my annoyance with abu...

Re: Risk(y words)
This thread gives me the impression that the audition selections are carefully chosen to offer obvious 9-letter words that will nonetheless be disallowed. Is that true? Would you be able to tell us if it were? And if it is or could be true, are they especially looking for cautious or slaphappy conte...

Re: Humorous incident on DCeDL
It seems quite common for new contestants to have difficulty with the interface, particularly for the numbers game. Does nobody bother to explain it to them?

Re: Countdown in the news
I haven't seen any of the CoC yet, of course, but I would have expected it to be unusual in that Rachel had very little to do: were there really doable numbers games that the champions didn't get?Michael Wallace wrote: ... few people will probably appreciate the unusualness of the CoC

Joseph, you already have 11 replies on this thread, which started out as an announcement rather than a discussion.
I would be interested to know whether you got that many entries in the same time .

Re: Forum Decorum
I can personally vouch for the fact that not all elderly ladies are offended by swearing in forum posts or elsewhere. Do I have to fucking join in to prove it? As to the cliquishness - it really shouldn't come as a surprise to anybody who lurked for a while before joining. The clique is part of what...

Re: Welcome! - Post here first
I'm afraid it never occurred to me that anybody would not yet have seen the show. I don't have any of the modern options for deferred watching. And I'm the only person in world with a PC without a sound card: it saves an awful lot of YouTubing time, but it does detract from the benefits of Podcasts....

Now I'm confused. I said "I joined ... after watching ...". It was a week ago - how does that get to be a spoiler?

Hi Everyone!
I just joined the forum after watching Charlie not quite win the final. I mostly lurk, but I might post a nifty numbers solution some time.
