Re: Mass noun plurals confusion

You say that, but the preface to the ODE clearly suggests that they've made some concessions to the dictionary being used as a source for word games - including, I suspect, the current [mass noun] tag. Incidentally I'd be equally happy with disallowing all mass noun plurals, because at least then yo...

Cricket has been flogged off to Sky, which seems to have killed much of its popularity - good work MCC! The racing still interrupts broadcasts occasionally. If it's rained off, there are no Countdown specials left in the can (except ones with RW, which would be weird) so they just show something else.

"Losingest" -> 17800 Google results.

So even by your metric, losingest is 15 times more worthy of inclusion.

Re: Spoilers for Friday 8th February 2008

The words chosen for the ODE are based almost entirely on usage frequency information, so I would suggest that you're just disproportionately exposed to PALATISE. I've never heard of it and I've done some amount of formal linguistics, so it's not ultra-common even within technical circles. Admittedl...

Do you need satellites for radio or mobile phone signals? So just to confirm, you're claiming there's a conspiracy to broadcast "satellite" television from a global network of ground masts? As for the non-existence of satellites, that should be easy enough to test: 1) Take 1 satphone. 2) ...
