Re: Countdown episode 1
Quite brilliant! I must admit I got 494 and then was positively kicking myself when Carol showed how to do it. The colour scheme of the letters hurt my eyes though!

Haha, I like that one. There are many funny bloopers on youtube, but don't be fooled by the one Charlie mentioned, which is clearly edited! It would be funny if Rachel did choose 3 other large numbers!

I didn't know you were banned from taking possible cheat items! Of course, it makes sense, it's just I never really thought about how you could cheat on Countdown! Incidentally, Stephen Fry says on his twitter, "Mm. I can see you're getting a picture of sybaritic luxury. If I told you I'd rathe...

Re: Who has non-Countdown-style hobbies?
See, a good reason for doing English A Level would have been to force me to read books. I don't make time for it with all the AS work I do now, and when I have free time I either internet or sleep! And I think I skipped the first few posts (bad me) which said hobbies that others didn't have! What do...

Charlie:  That's just beautiful, man! To have an intelligent Countdown player of such high standing endorse the Pokemon games is super! (Not implying that the rest of you aren't intelligent, but if you don't like Pokemon... :P) I do agree that the animated stuff is pretty rubbish. However, I'm ...

Good point! I'll correct myself: I think that some people today don't appreciate that Britain wasn't always like it is now, and also don't respect the legacy of the soldiers that died to protect our freedom. Thanks, Charlie!

You have put a name to THE Countdown font? You earn my never-ending respect. I have a rather odd ambition, which is to make my own Countdown cards for use in school, and it would help to use the right font! Oh, um, sorry for going off-topic (I see it says non-Countdown style!) Let me haul my post ba...

(For example, although 'beat your swords into ploughshares' is often quoted, there's a passage in Joel which says the exact opposite. ;) ) There's a real reason for that- for my Religious Studies GCSE, one of the topics was War, and in the paper you write about Christian beliefs on it. Of course, y...

You write so vividly, it really shows that you're an artist, and that those memories are important! In Hollywood films, as you said, nobody gets hurt. Either that, or it goes to the opposite extreme, with a film about unfortunate victims of Hitler and his regime. They just don't portray everyday lif...

It really is fascinating! It's tough to imagine living in the middle of the war, but it's even more difficult to imagine it seeming normal! I think I'm spoilt, living comfortably with no real problems. The most I complain about is getting up early or not getting enough sleep! It really pales in comp...

You have to remember that you see into "the mind of god" only via the mind of one or other flavour of believer. And they are not omniscient and loving at all - they are narrow minded, petty, mean and vengeful. There is no evidence whatever for any form of supernatural being or supernatura...

I'm sorry to hear about the pain caused by the Rockets and Doodle Bugs :( But there's nothing wrong with telling us children about the good old days- they must be called that for a reason! Poor Sir Attenborough! I tried it at school today in the afternoon; I was just wondering if the reason it wouldn't load was because it was at school with various other computers on the same internet-thing (I'm not so good with technology!) or whether it was down. Ah well! Well-earned break indeed, apterous is super

Thank you for the advice! I can see where you're coming from about going on it a second time. Clare: I think they're on the Countdown wiki, I might have got the list name wrong. I'm not sure why they're adding more, being pretty much a beginner at Japanese, but I'd assume they're adding kanji that are used relatively frequently nowadays, or maybe dropping some that aren't used so much in modern times. The third possibility is giving a Japanese word a kanji reading- since ka...
