I also have no idea what's going on with the puzzle, but it does remind me of a similar puzzle. There are 2 values of coins in an arbitrary monetary system, one worth 29p and one worth 17p. What's the largest value that cannot be paid exactly using just those coin values? And in the general case wha...

Speaking of how can that be a swear word, I've been listening to the Collings and Herrin podcasts recently where they referred to The Sun's report on Ronnie O'Sullivan's press conference with the Chinese media (I think. I fully expect the pe'dants brigade to correct me). The Sun asterisked out the w...

Far simpler to go to your local library's website, follow the links to the reference books, and enter your library card number and get full access to the OED I'd have thought. It does lack the Hollywood-style glamour of stealing a, er, dictionary, though. Unless it's OEDceans 14, which would rock.

Don't be sorry. There's a far greater crime at the numbers board: The numbers are never written to fit inside the squares on the paper! This is an outrage, and I for one am seriously thinking about watching the show again just so I can write a letter to the producer saying why I'm boycotting it.
