Re: Your preferred format for CO-events
I'm personally getting quite fed up of 9-rounders. They're nowhere near as satisfying to play as 15-rounders. Hardly anyone from the 9-round era comes to events any more. I know 9-rounders mean more games can be played, but I'd rather play, say, four 15-round games in one day than six 9-round ones. ...

Presumably Annie and Graham, and whoever they've told, know why. There could be any number of reasons. I really don't think it's any of our business.

Re: Organised Religion
I would be interested to know how they (whoever they are) measure the impact of a religion, or something like a religion, on society in general. Surely you'd have to look at (perceived) net impact rather than just (perceived) positive impact in order for this to be a meaningful way of assessing whet...

Re: People you shouldn't trust
I wonder what the horsey person would say to a runner who was, say, dressed up as a car? Would she then say that they were not allowed to move as quickly as a slow-moving car near her horse because they looked like a car but were not actually in a car? I have a feeling she might say that, because sh...

Re: So, who will be the founding member of Countdown's "1000 CLUB"?
Records are there to be broken, and 1000 in an octorun is not beyond the realms of possibility. It would certainly be extraordinarily unlikely, for reasons already outlined. I wouldn't like to speculate about which current players might be capable of it because I think it risks generating an unhealt...

I'd be happy to help you on the day, Tony, but I would need a refresher course in using the software. Or it might just be easier to go low-tech. I cannot promise help before the day, though. It's good to know that there is still some interest from MSO in Countdown. Perhaps there could be some sort o...

I see what you're saying, Mark. I should have said that for me, killing or not killing of a person or animal is an ethical decision but for other people that isn't necessarily the case.

Re: Politics in General
People who would not be prepared to kill an animal for food should not eat meat, and those who would not be prepared to administer the death penalty should not advovate it, in my opinion. My choosing to be flown in a plane rather than flying it myself is a matter of my lack of skills, and not an eth...

Re: Politics in General
To say that an ideology is misguided or not is a matter of opinion. To say that it is logical or not is a matter of fact. You can see the logic of an ideology without agreeing with it in the slightest. I have difficulty with the view that it is right to kill a person or animal but that you would not...

Making stuff up as one goes along, that usually works out well. Glad to know we're in safe hands. How on earth are the EU exit negotiations like a game of poker? Oh I see, they're not. Not a fan of the death penalty.

Sorry, bringing it back to politics again... What I've been thinking about recently is, should there be a referendum solely on the terms of EU exit? Re: FOCAL 2016
If I want to air grievances, I don't need permission to do so or advice on how to do it. My logic is that the more arbitrary FOCAL becomes, the less I feel it has a right to take money from Co event attendees. But i doubt anyone but me will care so what's the point arguing.

Re: FOCAL 2016
That Gev and Chris have applied alternative scoring systems and come up with different results from the official FOCAL results is, of course, not an outrage. But it does highlight the arbitariness of applying any given scoring system and, to me, weakens the case for FOCAL taking money in order to re...

I have yet to meet anyone who has never, ever hurt anyone else. My tendency, therefore, is to think that we are born error-prone. Is this pessimism or realism? I don't think that we should assume that Rachel is incapable of interesting or intelligent conversation just because a lot of what she says on Countdown seems boring. She has to talk about the kind of things that viewers will want to hear.

For me, best apterite has to look beyond performance in English standard variant only. Most of the players mentioned so far are pretty much one-trick ponies in terms of what apterous has to offer. I'm sure they would agree. So I'd be looking more at the likes of Adam Gillard, Innis, Marcus and Matt ...

Can I suggest a game, called Let's Make a Parliament. Everyone gets to nominate an MP to keep, an MP to chuck out, and a new MP, until we're bored. So, keep Chuka Umunna, chuck out Michael Gove, and bring in Gavin Chapwell.

According to biblical accounts, Jesus spent quite a bit of time mocking organised religion, so by that token, I don't see how it can be seen a bad thing. In a civilized society, any mature, well-adjusted religion or belief system should be able to take on the chin all sorts of mockery (anything from...
