Poor Maria had a bit of a mare today, felt for her.... Yeah me too...especially when your opponent is a professional golf player who definitely has a reputation outside the studio. Feel free to disagree with me, but IMO it was a bad miss for both contestants in R14. And wow, we haven't seen a high Max game in a while now! Getting REIGNITES and PARANOIDS is good enough for me!

My alternative for R14: 8x(3+1)x4

(P.S. Will not be on the daily chat until next Monday due to Chinese New Year celebrations in case those on Apterous are curious why I'm not there...)

Re: Spoilers for Friday 9th February 2018 (Series 78, Prelim 24)

Today's challenger said he'd been on before, but there is no record of a John Owens on the wiki; however, a Jon Owens appeared in Series 22 (roughly 25 years ago) and won one game, which he said he had. Going to move Jon's page to the spelling "John" and add redirects, but please let me know immedi...

What a good challenger Alyn was today! Especially the fast conundrum solve, makes him an excellent player and highest score without any wins at 86 points in the Series thus far!

Re: Spoilers for Wednesday 7th February 2018 (Series 78, Prelim 22)

Phil gave his weakest performance imo, but was still competent enough. Will we be seeing him more?- we'll have to see.... :) I think we will! He's spotted good words thus far, IMBUED, UNLINED, FLAMENS, PHIAL I could go on... (P.S. As Johnny is busy today, I will be putting up the recap, should be u...

Re: Spoilers for Friday 2nd February 2018 Series 78 Prelim 19

How rare it is for someone who is not of British Origin to be a contestant on the show, and the last place you'd probably expect...Norway! I really have to applaud Lena's effort and she truely is a fan of the show having watched and played along since 2010... I really pity her...she probably suffere...

Re: Spoilers for Friday 26th January 2018 (Series 78, Prelim 14)

What a close game...Sam was so on today especially after that nine-letter spot, Chris simply overpowered him...overcoming that moderate 23-point gap and eventually winning by 16 points. Good job Sam on your performance, all I can say is commiserations, but at least you tried...next in the hot seat w...

Re: Spoilers for 22nd January 2018

1 invalid word- LEDGING (which was to my surprise, admittedly). I got DELLING...Intel's Dell but sadly not to be...UNSPREADS for a 9 in R12 though I got UNEARTHS. Also, did anyone notice the credits now end much earlier than they used to? I think they started doing this about two or three episodes ...

Max of 175 makes it a record, not just in the new 15 format (previous was 166), but outright. The previous best was 173, and is the only other game with 5 nines available.
Thanks Stephen for the clarification! I highly doubt this record will be beaten for many years to come...

Ludicrous max this game
With a maximum of 175, I believe this is the highest in the history of Countdown...I believe the highest before this was 166 last year?? (Sometime in February/March??)

LOWAGER in R13...what a shame Jacob fell at the last hurdle! The episode was recorded at about 2030hrs-ish back on Monday, 23 October 2017 so yeah maybe that explains why...
