Well done Kirk! Your divinity is confirmed.
And well done everyone else for not revealing that the max game had happened (outside the spoiler threads). I just watched it on the computer and was trying not to get too excited, thinking such a momentous event would surely have been leaked.

Re: Kirk's debut
Technically, it isn't his debut. However, also technically, people aren't allowed a second try on the show. So logically every challenger is debuting. So, if people are going to be technical and pedantic, Kirk shouldn't be there at all. However, as Kirk is god, and and therefore omnipotent and omnip...

Much to my astonishment, I found something gayer than Charlie. MUCH gayer, in fact.
Admittedly, it was 'gayness itself'.

Hi Kate Firstly, I hope Sara recovers from her fall soon. Your last post made very little sense I'm afraid. You've quoted random things from this thread? A thread that was started AFTER you accused the forumites of homophobic comments. And some of the posts were so clearly unoffensive (notably the o...

Yes! Oh yes! It is rather intimidating for apterous virgins not to have a basic 'How to play' section. An ex-colleague has a large wine glass, big enough to take a bottle of wine, but when he has finished drinking it, he has still drunk a bottle of wine, not a glass. Re: Sandwich/Sandwiches
No one has yet mentioned the temporal aspect of sandwichhood. If I cut the sandwich in half in order to eat both halves myself, and I eat them at the same time (well, consecutively, not simultaneously, cos that's just silly!) it would be one sandwich (ie two halves); but if I do so in order to have ...

Re: Cubes Sum Product Squares plus Induction Goodness
I think the assumption is that n is a natural number, Kirk. I think that induction only works for natural numbers. Which is how come you can prove n(n+1) i positive. Because n is positive. Not because n(n+1) is positive. I think.

Re: Cubes Sum Product Squares plus Induction Goodness
I think I've finally got my head round this. (Thanks everyone - especially Phil). But surely if you can prove that it holds true for n, there is no need for the assumption that it is true for some n; couldn't you prove it before going on to prove it's true for n+1? Or am I still missing something? (...

Re: Cubes Sum Product Squares plus Induction Goodness
That's not really what Nicky said, but anyway. Isn't it? It's what I meant to say. 1 If a, then b 2 If b, then c therefore 3 If a then c. You can't say "Assume statement 1. Here is proof of statement 2. I've proved statement 3." You have to prove both statements, or your proof only holds ...

Fine, if the sun goes supernova tomorrow, all human life will be destroyed. The point I was making, that you have to assume something to construct an implication, regardless of whether that something is true, is still clear. All induction says is that if you can reach the first rung of a ladder, and that if you know that from any rung of the ladder you can reach the next rung, then you can climb the whole ladder - all you've done there is shown that you can climb the first 3 rungs. I think - and I only did A-level math...

I've been reverse engineering this one. In the system we have each new denomination is either twice the previous one, or twice the previous one plus the one before it. ie, 1 = a 2 = b = 2a 5 = c= 2b +a 10 = d = 2c 20 = e = 2d 50 = f = 2d +c 100=g = 2f So, I think we have these possible alternative s...

Hi folks, I'm Nicky. I used to watch Countdown in the late 80s and early 90s after school with my mum.
