Possibly not, or at least not without some fairly unlikely circumstances. For a non apterite to win a series they'd have to either be in a very weak series or have some efficient training mechanism that wasn't apterous (eg Julian Fell studied the dictionary and used the handheld Countdown game). Excellent performance by Tom, one of the best I've ever seen certainly for the first 13 rounds.
Got the last nums in time, the large smalls made it look harder than it was perhaps.

I think if he'd got an A or I for the 8th letter he would have done. I agree about SOLARIZED too.

Also, r13 is probably the most welcome an errant Q has ever been for Stephen, since the only way for Annie to win was to beat Stephen with a 9, the nums and 2 conundrums.

PENITUDE as well in that round. Had AGONALS too as a beater.
Interesting decision not to gamble on the last nums by Lawrie...even if you aren't a strong numbers player it's surely in your best interests to gamble. Was surprised they both didn't get 897 though, though it must be hard in the studio.

Wes's 6s may well prove tough for Moose, who was prone to missing even easy 1l games, so if Wes can nail both his numbers with Moose messing them up then Moose will have a hill to climb. It's pretty impossible to please everyone though, what you might hate someone else might love. Susie seemed to imply IRONICAL wouldn't have been allowed had it been declared, yet it's perfectly fine on apterous. It seemed she said "Yeah, not on Countdown but it's in the dictionary" when asked if it was okay.

COLIN XII attendees who are good at Touchdown may have seen the exceptionally rare 9 that was one letter out in the DIOXIN round... I actually did spot that it would have been there but for one letter, which made me look very smart lol. Anyone else get the impression that Berkan is really nervous?

My dad, who normally is quite bad at the game and comes up with loads of invalid words, walked in the room in r10, looked at the screen and instantly said "what about RETINOL for 7?". Not the max, but still a pretty good find.

Aye, it certainly sounded like it. Didn't really affect the outcome of the match luckily. Perhaps Nick had just become accustomed to him being a good player and so assumed he'd said the right answer.
